Stene does not file for president of Village of Colfax, five other candidates file for four positions

COLFAX — Gary Stene, Colfax village president, will not be running for re-election in the April 2 election.

Or at least as of Friday, January 4, Stene was not listed as a candidate.

The deadline for filing nomination papers at the Colfax village clerk’s office for the April election for the Colfax Village Board was 5 p.m. on Wednesday, January 2.

Because Stene did not turn in a notification of non-candidacy for the village president position by January 2, the filing deadline was extended for 72 hours, making the new deadline for village president 5 p.m. on Monday, January 7, said Jackie Ponto, village administrator clerk-treasurer.

The village trustee positions held by incumbents Beverly Schauer, Susan Olson, Scott Gunnufson and Chris Olson also will be up for election in April.

Schauer, Susan Olson, Scott Gunnufson and Christian Olson submitted nomination papers by the January 2 deadline.

Anne Schieber also turned in nomination papers for village trustee.

Gunnufson was appointed to the village board in 2012 to serve the remainder of the term created by the resignation of Village Trustee Mike Laska.

Mark Halpin and Rick Johnson also serve on the Colfax Village Board.
