Bloomer-Colfax grapplers drop conference match to Ladysmith

BLOOMER — Only four wrestlers from Bloomer-Colfax posted wins in the home match against the Ladysmith Lumberjacks Dec. 18. After falling behind 42-0, B-C won four straight matches to get the score closer at 42-24, but they dropped the final three resulting in the 60-24 loss.

Starting at the 152 weight class, Dan Thorgerson of B-C lost by a pin as did Brady Hetke at 160, Tommy Johnson at 170 and Jake Floodquist at 182 giving Ladysmith six points for each win for a 24-0 lead. B-C did not have a wrestler at 195 which gave the Lumberjacks another six points for a forfeit and Ryan Ratcliff of B-C lost via a pin at 285.

Justin Wachtendonk started the scoring streak for B-C with a forfeit win at 106, and the strength at the lighter weights came through as Tucker Hovde pinned his Ladysmith opponent at the 113 pound class in just 31 seconds, 120 pounder Brady Simonson took a little longer but came up with a pin at 3:19 and Hunter Hedke won via a pin in 4:33 at the 126 pound class. Celvin Marquardt (132), Robbi Rands (138) and Trevor Newton (145) all lost by pins to finish the night off.

Some of the B-C wrestlers traveled to Orlando, FL for a tournament Dec. 19-22, then the team will compete at the Northern Badger tournament in River Falls Dec. 28-29.
