Vikings finish 2-8 against tough competition

CAMERON — In their final tune up in the Cameron Invitational before beginning regional competition, the number five seeded Colfax volleyball team faced off against three teams  who are all seeded higher in the regional including Grantsburg (1), Cameron (2) and Fall Creek (3).

Starting their day off last Saturday with a match against Bloomer, the Vikings split the two game match, winning 25-19 and dropping the second 25-19. They then split with Rice Lake, losing 25-23 as they lost four points on missed serves, but won 27-25 in the second set. They continued in the tourney by losing to Cameron 25-15, 25-22, and Grantsburg 25-14, 25-20 and ended the day with a two set loss to Fall Creek 25-20 and 25-18. Against Fall Creek, Colfax again had trouble serving as they missed six of them but were perfect from the service line in the second set.

Kori Buchanan led the Vikings with 22 kills in the tourny while Ryleigh Prochnow and Taylor Shipman both collected 15 and  Braanna Steen added 14 and Chey Olson 10. Prochnow picked up seven blocks and Alexis Rudi dug the ball up 48 times with Olson adding 26 digs. Dannielle Dachel ended the day with a team leading 36 assists and Buchanan set her teammates up 20 times.

“We were hoping to have a stronger showing but we missed 20 serves and had a large amount of hitting errors that were costly,” coach Pam Meredith said. “We are going to have to minimize the unforced errors as we enter playoffs this week. We are capable of having a more consistent performance,” she added.
