Lady Vikings, Mounders both finish 1-3 in Altoona

Playing against several schools of the Division 1 caliber, both the Colfax and Elk Mound volleyball teams finished with a 1-3 record at the Altoona Invitational Saturday, Oct. 6.

Colfax started the day with a two set loss to Eau Claire North 25-11 and 25-18, lost the next match to Rice Lake 25-20 and 25-15, went to three sets before falling to Somerset as they lost the first set 25-18, came back for a 26-24 win in the second then dropped the third 15-10. They concluded the tourny with a two set win over their arch rival Elk Mound by scores of 25-16 and 28-26. The Vikings were ahead in the second set 18-12 then had to fight off a Mounder surge for the extra point win.

Chey Olson led the team with 17 kills in the four matches while Kori Buchanan added 16 and Braanna Steen and Taylor Shipman both slammed 15. Dannielle Dachel picked up a team leading 32 assists and Alexis Rudi added 51 digs. Against Elk Mound, the team made good on 53 of 53 serve attempts.

Elk Mound lost their first round game to eventual champ Chippewa Falls 25-19, 25-19, then couldn’t break the 19 point mark again as they lost to Immanuel Lutheran 25-19, 25-19. They defeated Somerset 25-18, 25-20 then fell in the afore mentioned final match against Colfax. These games do not count towards conference play.

Both Colfax and Elk Mound finish conference play Tuesday with the Mounders undefeated and the Vikings one game back with their only loss coming from the Mounders.
