Elk Mound spikers stay on top

Two wins on the road last week kept the Elk Mound volley ball team at the top of the Dunn-St. Croix Conference with a 4-0 record as they took care of Spring Valley in three sets by scores of 25-16, 25-16, 25-14 Sept. 18 and rolled over the Elmwood Raiders, again in three sets 25-10, 25-5, 25-11 two days later.

Spring Valley

Amanda Ward slammed 13 kills against the Cardinals and picked up six digs and a block, while Maddy Polden added 10 kills, two serving aces and five digs. Kaysi Meindel smacked seven kills, assisted on three blocks and added a pair of aces, Anna Sessions had four kills with three block assists and Becca Kopp set her teammates up a team leading 15 times, adding six digs. Katie Johnson picked up 14 assists and Katie Bergh finished with five digs to save points for the team.

Elmwood

Meindel showed her strength from all over the court as she put down nine kills with three serving aces and Sessions was tough at the net with seven kills and two blocks. Polden and Carissa Wiesser both added four kills with Polden digging the ball off the floor three times. Johnson assisted her teammates 14 times for points and also aced the Raiders four times while Kopp picked up 11 assists to go with three un-returnable serves and three digs.

The Mounders host Glenwood City Tuesday, then travel to Mondovi for a tough match Thursday, Sept. 27.
