10 years ago – September 11, 2002

Patrick Higbie and Audra Gaddy were married June 8 at St. Peter’s Catholic Church, Tilden.
Travis Logslett won the 10 kilometer race in the Colfax Kiwanis Twister Run while Joe Doucette won the 5 kilometer race.

Jeff Gust, president of the Colfax Soccer Club, accepted a $500 donation to the club from CenturyTel. Other donations came from Bremer Bank, Mane Street Salon, Colfax Animal Hospital, Wal-Mart, Security Agency, Commercial Lab and Viking Realty.

25 years ago – September 10, 1987

Cary Christian, owner of Christian Electronics on Tainter Lake, will have an expansion Grand Opening at his business where he will sell and service televisions, VCRs, hi-fis and car stereos.

Todd Kragness scored all the Viking’s points in a 9-0 win over Boyceville as he kicked a 28 yard fieldgoal and scored on a one yard run.

Tate Zurbachen scored all three touchdowns for the Elk Mound team on runs of 54, 18 and one yard in a 21-6 win over Elmwood.

35 years ago – September 15, 1977

Linda Schnoor and Donald Pierce were married July 9 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Menomonie.

John and Elizabeth Asher, Route 1, Colfax, have announced the birth of a son, Jonah, born Aug. 4.

The Colfax football team racked up 542 total yards enroute to a 47-8 romp over Boyceville. Ron Rose rushed for 201 yards in the win.

50 years ago September 13, 1962

Born Sept. 1 to Mr. and Mrs. Robert Marko, a son, Michael Jon, at the Bloomer hospital.
Several new staff members join the Colfax school district including Michael Bonacci, Mrs. Franko, Allen Stai, Eugene Dunagan, Mrs. Darlene Engstrom, Esther Boettcher, Miss Snow, Mrs. Wayne Munger and Ronald Nemanic.

Ruth N. Nelson of Colfax received the Master of Science Degree in Education at the University of Wisconsin.

Colfax lost their season opener 19-6 to Boyceville as John Hovre passed to Dave Olson for a 20 yard touchdown for the Viking’s only points.

65 years ago – September 18, 1947

Six young people avoided serious injuries when a 1930 Model A Ford driven by Robert Lemler overturned on “40” about one half mile south of the Dan Emmerton farm Sunday afternoon. Occupants of the car besides Lemler were Alton Jorstad, Jerry Holm, James Fjelsted, Edward Peterson and Berdella Steinmetz.

Miss Elaine Margaret Tibbits of Eau Claire and Erling B. Lee of Colfax were married Aug. 22 at the Wedding Manor in Los Angeles, Calif.

After serving a hitch with the Navy in World War II, Donnie Toycen re-enlisted for three more years.

100 years ago – September 20, 1912

It was great sport for Colfax to beat up Elk Mound at base ball last Thursday before 8,000 people at the fair at Menomonie by a score of 7 to 0. DeRusha, Colfax’s pitcher received better support than did Roy Soronson, the Elk Mound star. Chub Howe, Elk Mound’s captain got in bad with the crowd because of his frequent hollers.

Leon Snyder from the Town of Grant cultivated 14 qts. of ginseng berries from his patch which are worth about $200 at present prices.
