Seven new teachers and staff join Colfax and Elk Mound

ELK MOUND — Teachers and staff from the Colfax, Elk Mound and Boyceville school districts attended an in-service at Elk Mound High School August 29.

Here are profiles of the new staff at Colfax and Elk Mound.

Colfax

Julie Duce-Richard (RN)
Julie Duce-Richard is the school nurse for the Colfax School District for grades pre-school through 12.

She graduated from Stanley-Boyd High School in 1974 and graduated from the Maui Community College in 1985. Her university degree was in Associate Nursing and Science.

Duce-Richard has served as nurse at UW Health Eau Claire Family Medicine Clinic and also served as a public health nurse in Alaska.

“I enjoy working in education. I love kids and prevention health,” she said.

Brianne Link
Brianne Link is a special education teacher at Colfax High School focusing on English, science and math classes.

She graduated from Barron High School in 2007 and from UW-Stout in 2011 with a degree in special education.

“This is my first teaching job. I live right in Colfax and as a member of this community, I’m proud to join the School District of Colfax staff,” Link said.

Mae Simpson
Mae Simpson is a special education teacher in the Colfax School District.

She graduated from Menomonie High School in 2002 and UW-Eau Claire in 2007 with a degree in Special Education/General Education.

Simpson taught in Barron and Ellsworth before coming to Colfax.

Elk Mound

Karin Javanovich
Karin Javanovich is a special education teacher in the Elk Mound School District and will be teaching high school special education.

She is a 1989 graduate of North High School in Eau Claire and graduated from UW-Eau Claire in 2005 with a degree in Special Education focusing on cognitive disabilities, learning disabilities and emotional/behavior disabilities.

Javanovich taught at Eau Claire and Superior before coming to Elk Mound.

“I am from the area, and I am very happy to be part of the Elk Mound Area School District,” Javanovich said.

Sarah Jones
Sarah Jones is an English teacher in the Elk Mound School District who will be teaching Introduction to English, General English and Composition II.

She graduated from Superior Senior High in Superior in 1999 and from UW-Eau Claire in 2003 with a degree in English education.
Jones taught at Superior Middle School in Superior before coming to Elk Mound.

“I’m excited to be back in the area!” Jones said.

Joshua Sampson
Joshua Sampson is a Photography, Web Design and CAD drawing teacher in the Elk Mound School District.

He graduated from Spooner High School in 1992 and from UW-Stout in 2012 with a Bachelor of Science in technology education with a minor in history.

Sampson said he chose to apply for the teaching position in Elk Mound because, “I’ve heard Elk Mound is one of the best school districts in the state.”

Missy Schroeder
Missy Schroeder is a middle school and high school special education teacher in the Elk Mound School District.

She graduated from Arcadia High School in 2007 and from UW-Eau Claire in 2011 with a degree in Special Education focusing on cognitive disabilities, learning disabilities and emotional/behavior disorders.

Schroeder taught in the Arcadia public school system before coming to Elk Mound.

“I’ve heard great things about this district and community, and I look forward to a wonderful year getting to be a part of it,” Schroeder said.
