BOYCEVILLE — Had a few too many? We’ve all been there. Cucumbers contain enough sugar, B vitamins and electrolytes to replenish nutrients the body lost, keeping everything in balance. Eat a couple slices before bed and wake up headache-free!
This year’s Cucumber Festival in Boyceville, which kicks off this Friday, August 16 and runs through Sunday, August 18, features a under construction theme entitled “Caution Pickle Fest Ahead” and will be headlined by 2019 Grand Marshals Ben and Carol Schlosser.
The first clue for the “Golden Pickle” hunt can be found inside today’s issue of the Tribune Press Reporter, with subsequent clues being posted on the Boyceville Community Action page on Facebook as well as in local businesses. To whoever the lucky finder is of this year’s “Golden Pickle”, a cool $100 cash prize will be the reward.
The festival will get underway on Friday, August 16 at 5 p.m. with the Hearts and Hands quilt show at the public library.
In the evening, the “Ain’t No One Horse Town” parade will take place at 7 p.m. And don’t forget to pop on over to the Firefighter’s tent that night for music from The Pour Boyz which will go start at 8:30 p.m. and go until midnight.
Saturday’s (August 17) events get underway early with the 19th annual Cucumber Run that features the 10k, 5k, and one-mile run/walk at 8:30 a.m. over at Boyceville Middle School.
If the run in the morning isn’t for you though come down to Main Street for the tenth annual car show taking place between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m., sponsored by TMS Tire and Auto.
Events starting at 11 a.m. Saturday begins with bingo over in the Firefighters’ tent, followed by the bean bag tournament sponsored by Buckshot Bar and the 1860 baseball game at Pafko Park featuring the Menomonie Blue Caps versus the Afton Red Socks at noon.
Also, beginning at noon and running until 4 p.m. will be the family fun zone on Main Street, followed by the Hearts and Hands quilt show at the public library 1p.m. to 3 p.m.
Want to munch down on some pickles? Don’t worry the events have you covered for that as well at 2 p.m. with the pickle eating contest.
The kiddie and pet parade is scheduled for 5 p.m. and the tractor parade will follow right after at 6 p.m. on Main Street. Ending the night will be music group The Fourth Degree in the Firefighters’ tent between 8:30 p.m. and 12:30 a.m.
Sunday morning early-risers can make their way over to the annual fly-in/drive-in pancake breakfast at the Boyceville Municipal Airport on August 19 from 7 a.m. to 11 a.m.
The festivities will start up again at 10 a.m. with a pie and lunch social over at Trinity Lutheran Church. Everyone’s big highlight of Sunday will be the Grand Parade led by this year’s grand marshals Ben and Carol Schlosser at 1 p.m. Following the parade will be Dewey Shaw spinning records in the Firefighters’ tent and a kiddie pedal tractor pull on Main Street.
Throughout the weekend, you can make your way over to the softball fields for this year’s tournament or over to Winter Street for the homemade crafts and goods market, the hours are August 16 6 – 8 p.m. August 17 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., and August 18 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sno-Jammers chicken, food vendors, and the homemade pickle contest will run all weekend, along with Pickle Central where you can pick up all your novelties, t-shirts, and pickle creation needs.
