A Wilson man has become St. Croix County’s first traffic fatality of 2019.
Scott A. Gossel, age 36 from Wilson, WI died early Saturday morning, February 2 in a one-vehicle crash on US Highway 12 at Bridge Avenue in the Town of Baldwin.
According to a news release from the St. Croix County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to the crash site around 12:20 a.m.
A preliminary investigation indicates that the 2002 Ford F-250 truck driven by Gossel was eastbound on US Highway 12 when the truck entered the south ditch, went over Bridge Ave. and struck a stop sign and power pole. The truck came to rest against the power pole.
Gossel was pronounced dead at the scene by the St. Croix County Medical Examiner.
Gossel was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash. Alcohol is a possible factor in the cause of the crash.
Assisting at the scene, were United Fire & Rescue, Baldwin EMS, and Woodville, Baldwin and Hammond Police Departments.
The crash remains under investigation by the St. Croix County Sheriff’s Office and Medical Examiner’s Office.
