Derek R. Krumrie, Elk Mound, a member of Chippewa Valley Boy Scout Troop 71, will receive his Eagle Scout Award in a ceremony at 2 p.m. Dec. 10 in the auditorium at Elk Mound High School. His project involved repairs and improvements at Elk Creek Lake Park in the Town of Spring Brook.
The 63rd annual meeting of the Colfax Farmers Union will be held Dec. 13 in the Colfax High School cafeteria.
Colfax schools received $844.10 as a result of the Fuel Your School promotion sponsored by the Colfax Farmers Union Cenex convenience store. Chuck Brown presented the check Nov. 30 to Dennis Geissler, superintendent of schools.

Piles of snow provided extra playground equipment for youngsters at Colfax Elementary following the Nov. 22-23 snowstorm.
Toys for Tots drop-off points in Colfax are First Bank and Trust, First American Bank Wisconsin, Hovre Chevrolet and Kirkwood’s IGA. Toys for Tots is sponsored by Dunn County Human Services. In 1990, 600 children were reached.
Wrestling moves into the sports spotlight Dec. 5 when Colfax-Elk Mound meets Elmwood-Plum City in Colfax. The Colfax-Elk Mound team is coached by Jeff Mack of Elk Mound. Practice is in the Colfax High School wrestling room.

Gary Hill, Rt. 3, Colfax high schooler, was the last of 381 successful hunters to register his gun deer kill Nov. 30 at Fennie’s. The total number registered is up 34.6 percent from 1980.

Practically the first crack Old Man Winter took at this area was hard enough to cause the closing of Colfax schools on Tuesday. Before midnight Monday, rain began to fall, and added to the light snowfall on Sunday plus a freezing temperature, roads in the country, especially on hills, became a glare of ice and nearly impassable.
In an effort to have more outdoor decorating of homes this year, the Colfax Women’s Club and the Colfax Civic Club are collaborating in sponsoring an outdoor home decorating contest. First prize will be $15 cash; second, $10; and third, $5.
A Colfax children’s party, sponsored by the Colfax Civic Club, will be held at 1 o’clock Saturday, December 17, at the high school gym. The movie will be Walt Disney’s “Moon Spinner.” Cartoons will be “Santa’s Workshop,” “Pluto’s Fledglings,” “Crazy Over Daisy,” and “Ugly Duckling.” Immediately following the films, Santa will be on hand to wish all a Merry Christmas.

Preliminary work on Colfax’s $161,000 sewage disposal plant is now fully underway by the Bloomer Truck & Shovel Co. Work being done this fall consists mainly of setting into place from the Red Cedar River to the sewage plant site the necessary 14-inch pipe which will cross the river in two places. One of the pipes will run four feet under water and will be of cast iron.
River Falls’ perennially tough basketball team will come here Friday night to open the Middle Border conference schedule against Colfax. Both Hudson and Menomonie have forfeited two basketball games to Colfax. Two fill-in games will be played against Elmwood and Chetek in February.

At about five o’clock last Saturday afternoon, the busy grind of our little city was disturbed by the sudden clang of the fire alarm. Upon investigation it was found that a small blaze had started in the kitchen at A.C. Hayner’s home on the south side, thought to have started from a spark of fire remaining on a stick used in stirring the fire. Mrs. Hayner was out in the barn milking the cow when the fire was discovered by neighbors at the W.A. Smith home.
The Colfax village board approved a motion to sell the old jail building for $50.
This locality experienced some of the most beautiful days the past week ever seen here at this time of year.
