Five young ladies are vying for the Miss Boyceville crown. They are Brittney Foss, Samantha Dickens, Sami Lovett, Nerissa Retz, Alicia Kerr. Tori Kostman is running for Jr. Miss Boyceville.
Whether or not to add a sidewalk in the Village of Wilson brought up the most discussion in its August 8 monthly meeting. A time and date for a public hearing will be announced at a later date.
The Glenwood City Common Council took action on several items of city business, including approving an environmental assessment of the old saddle club grounds along Highway 128. Monty Weeks of Glenwood City is interested in the property as a site for his machine shop. The council also approved hiring Theresa Kopacz as the new Summer Rec and Park Director, to replace Margie Hansen, who had resigned earlier this month.

At its July meeting last week, the Boyceville School Board revealed the district’s four most recent “Teacher of the Year” awards. The teachers are Sharon Tripp, Marilyn Heifner, Larry Zirgibel, and Corey Thompson.
Lori Carlsrud, Emily Nelson, Jodi Nutzman, Jennifer Schultz, Melinda Gruenhagen, Amanda Zirgibel, and Megan O’Gara are the candidates for Miss Boyceville this year.
Only 27 people turned out for the annual meeting of the Glenwood City School district Monday night.

Peterson’s Red and White Store has just completed a remodeling and redecorating project at the store, which included paint, new ceiling and a new lighting system.
Gale Rasmusson is the new alderman from the third ward in the City of Glenwood. He was appointed by the Council on Monday evening. Rasmusson takes the place of Holger Nielsen, who moved and no longer is a resident of that ward.
Roberta Limberg of Glenwood City has been installed as Associate Grand Matron of the Grand Chapter Order of the Eastern Star.
Mary Mortel, granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. Herman Cassellius, recently became “Miss Minnesota Highway”.
Last Friday night the homecoming ceremonies were held. Roger Moe was named Homecoming King and Mary Shepard was named Homecoming Queen.

It has been announced that on Labor Day, September 3, a memorial auto race will be held at the Boyceville Speedway with the entire gate receipts to go to the family of Dale Bolin, who died August 19 from injuries received in an accident on the Speedway that day.
Work on Highway X improvement projects in the city of Glenwood is proceeding nicely. The storm sewer is all installed and nearly three blocks of curb and gutter is completed. It is expected that the blacktopping will get under way the latter part of next week.
The cost-price squeeze is soon going to draw tighter and tighter around the neck of the American farmers. The large farm equipment industries are going to raise the price on farm machinery. The increase is due to the higher cost for steel and steel parts. International Harvester has announced a 5% increase, and other implement makers are expected to announce increases over the next few weeks as well.

Art Larson has embarked in the auto painting business in Glenwood City, and is ready to take painting and top dressing jobs anywhere in the vicinity.
Tom Riley, who has held down the manager’s job at the Cylon elevator, has resigned his position and Art Martin has been hired in his place.
With a terrible crash Tuesday afternoon at about four o’clock, a team belonging to the Glenwood City Transfer Co., hitched to one of the heavy dray wagons, ran headlong into the white way post in front of Lobin’s billiard rooms on First Street.

Boyceville’s 1981 Cucumber Queen, Tami Lohfink, was crowned at the August 29 coronation ceremonies during the Cucumber Festival. Jody Larson was crowned first princess and Alana Andrews was crowned second princess.
Saying she has been happy with her time as Boyceville’s librarian, Orlis Blodgett who retires mid-September, was honored with a cake for her service to the library.
Boyceville High School is in the process of installing three Apple-Mini computers for math and other classes, according to Laverne Boetcher, math teacher. Mini-computers cost about $1,200 each – the same amount that the district rented in computer time from the UW-River Falls computer for the year.
