Primary Election set for Tuesday, August 9th
Wisconsin’s Partisan Party Primary Election is set for next Tuesday, August 9 with candidates in both the Republican and Democratic Parties that are seeking to gain a spot on the November General Election.
Included in this primary election are the open seats for United States Senator, Representative in Congress for District number 7, State Senator from the Tenth District, Representative to the Assembly and County offices.
State law allows voters to vote in only one party’s primary (Republican; Democratic; Constitution; Libertarian; Wisconsin Green).
If a voter does not choose a political party on the ballot, and then the voter votes in more than one party, none of the votes will be counted.
United States Senator
For United States Senator, incumbent, Ron Johnson is the only Republican on the ballot. On the Democratic ballot, Russ Feingold of Middleton is being challenged by Scott Harbach of Kenosha. Feingold served as Wisconsin Senator from 1993 to 2011 and lost to Johnson in 2010. Harbach owns three private detective and security consultant agencies and has investigated crimes for more than 30 years.
One other candidate, on the Libertarian Party Ballot is Phillip N. Anderson of Fitchburg.
Representative in Congress
For the Seventh Congressional District, which includes most of the northern part of the state including St. Croix County, Donald Raihala of Superior is challenging incumbent, Sean Duffy, Wausau. There are also two candidates on the Democratic ticket seeking the Seventh District seat. They are: Mary Hoeft of Rice Lake and Joel Lewis of Wausau.
State Senator
In the Tenth Senatorial District, which includes all of St. Croix County except the Township of Forest and part of Dunn County, incumbent Senator Sheila Harsdorf, is on the Republican ballot while Diane Odeen is the only candidate on the Democratic ticket. Both Harsdorf and Odeen are from River Falls.
Representatives to the Assembly
For the seat in the 29th State Assembly district, current incumbent John Murtha is not seeking another term at Madison. Four people have filed for that seat, two of them on the Republican ticket, Rob Stafsholt and Vince Trudell. The two on the Democratic ticket are: Randy Knaack and Scottie E. Ard. Stafsholt and Ard are from New Richmond, while Trudell is from Hammond and Knaack is from Menomonie.
St. Croix County Offices
Cindy Campbell, the current St. Croix County Clerk is the only candidate running for that office on the Democratic ticket. No other party has a candidate.
Three people are seeking the Republican nomination for St. Croix County District Attorney. They are: Donna Burger, Rory E. O’Sullivan and Michael E. Nieskes. Sarah Yacoub is seeking the Democratic nomination for District Attorney in the Primary.
Two Republican Candidates are the only candidates on the ballot for St. Croix County Treasurer. They are: Tim Schroeder and Laurie A. Noble.
Beth Pabst is seeking the Register of Deeds office as a Democratic on next Tuesday’s ballot. She is the only candidate.
