The Arvold Chiropractic Clinic is the newest business on Main Street. Dr. Dan Arvold purchased the former Peoples State Bank building from Luanne Winget after she closed the craft and flower shop she had operated for nearly ten years.

Alexa De Moe received a certificate and $150 from Dunn County Sheriff Dennis Smith for her winning entry in the annual Wisconsin Sheriffs and Deputy Sheriffs Association essay contest.

In time for the annual sectional track meet in Colfax May 25, a plaque was installed designating the L.P. Bjurquist Athletic Fields.

A new permanent performance stage has been built at the Colfax Fairgrounds. The old stage was demolished in the fall of 1989, prompting some controversy and the decision to build a new one.

Ready to represent Colfax in the state division 3 track meet in LaCrosse May 31 to June 1 are Angie Stearns, Angela Wait and Leah Frogner.

Members of the Wisconsin National Guard Marathon team include Dale Bergeson of Colfax. The team recently competed in National Guard Trials in Lincoln, Nebraska and was third among teams from 49 states, Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands.

Clyde Prince, Tim Prince and Tom Prince installed bases over the Memorial Day weekend at the village’s new softball field.

Village Trustee Dean Borofka reported that someone had tried to set buildings at the fairgrounds on fire and that only village employee Bob Johnson noticing the fire prevented substantial damage.

The Colfax Women’s Civic League will hold a cake walk on the patio of the nursing home at 6:30 p.m. June 9.

The Russell-Toycen American Legion Post has given a gift of a flag and flagpole to Area Nursing Home. The flag and pole were installed in time for Memorial Day.

Charles Bille Jr., 18, and his sister, Terri, 13, suffered severe burns last Wednesday evening when a homemade rocket exploded prematurely. Both are still at Luther Hospital and will be there for some time. Charles was scheduled to graduate from high school the next evening.

May 31, 1951

Mike Faber of Delafield will serve as operator for the radio station WHWC Colfax, according to an announcement by Vernon Christianson, head operator. The station broadcasts on 88.3 megacycles. Faber will remain there until this fall when Clinton Barstad will graduate from radio school and take over as operator for the Colfax station.

The second largest German brown trout entered in the Colfax Rod & Gun Club fishing contest was a giant specimen taken from 18-Mile Creek on Saturday by Art Quevillon. The fish weighed five pounds and five ounces and was 24 inches long.

Monday morning, June 4, children from kindergarten through grade 8 will begin their vacation Bible School at the local public schools. More than 175 children attended last year, and even a greater number is anticipated this summer. The session will close June 15.

June 2, 1916

Egg Day is Saturday, June 3, at the Colfax Store Company. Prizes will be given for the largest lots of eggs brought in. First prize is two sacks of “Best of All” flour. Second prize is one sack of “Best of All” flour. Third prize is $1 worth of granulated sugar. Everyone else bringing in twelve dozen or more eggs will receive one ten-cent can of canned goods.

Members of the A. Budd family near Wheeler spied a full-grown bear on their premises recently.
