Kay Logghe, a 5th grade teacher at Glenwood City Elementary School, was named as one of FOX9/UPN29 as one of its Top Teachers last Wednesday.

It was learned at the organizational meeting of the city council on Tuesday evening that newly-elected Municipal Judge Alfred Schrank will not accept the position because of health reasons.

Steve Rasmussen, from rural Boyceville, defeated fellow supervisor Earl Wildenberg by a vote of 19 to 8 as the new chair of the Dunn County Board of Supervisors last Wednesday in its regular monthly meeting.

Fire struck the Cady Cheese Factory Saturday night, destroying the factory and $250,000 worth of inventory. Plans are underway to rebuild.

The common council Monday night, at its regular meeting, decided to call a public meeting for Glenwood City residents to discuss the relocation of state highway 170 in Glenwood City.

A large Husky-type dog had to be destroyed last week after it was exposed to liquid propane, and suffered from frozen skin and lung damage. The dog was tied to a 1,000 LP tank at Mobile Estates in Glenwood City.  Apparently the dog, along with the very soft soil that the tank was sitting on, was able to tip the tank on its side. As the tank tipped over, the copper gas line broke off and allowed the liquid to escape.

The Farmers Store here is in the midst of a remodeling program that includes a new lighting system, a new tile floor, a new refrigerated display case for the meat department.

Three Glenwood City FFA boys – Duane Hill, John Shepard and Jim Schug, Jr. – will receive the Wisconsin Farmer degree Wednesday, June 15th at the 37th annual FFA convention at Green Lake.

Members of the St. Croix County Electric Cooperative have now received a total of more than $178,000 in capital credit refunds at the co-op’s annual meeting on Thursday.

Donald Teigen and Phillip Slotvig will share top honors and co-valedictorians of the 1956 Glenwood City High School senior class.

Eight men turned out on the first of May to drag and seed oats on  about 80 acres of land for their neighbor, Mrs. Lawrence Klinger, whose husband died about three weeks previously. It took the men about four and a half hours to do the job.

Donald Teigen, a local high school student, is among the finalists in the Minneapolis Star’s World Affairs competition. He ranked among the first 25 of the 56. He was awarded an encyclopedia Brittanica World Atlas.

April 7, 1921

While Mrs. Clarence Edmonds and baby and her mother, Mrs. Mary Dunlap, were returning home from Floyd French’s Sunday evening, the buggy seat in which they were riding tipped, throwing them all backwards on the ground. Mrs. Edmonds and baby were not hurt, but Mrs. Dunlap had three ribs cracked and was otherwise injured. She is resting easy at present at the home of her daughter, Mrs. C. Edmonds.

Tuesday’s election was a quiet one and there was only a small vote pooled. There was only one contest in the city, Jos. Lightfoot winning out over Con Jensen for alderman in the First ward, 45 to 12. For state superintendent of public instruction John Callahan was given a splendid endorsement, securing 101 votes to 15 for Cary.

The valedictorian of the Boyceville High School of 1981 is Linda Bisson. Salutatorian is Drew Karnick.

Despite the fact that students do drop out of school before gradation, that doesn’t mean they later think it was the best decision to make. Some later return to school discovering their mistake, many who haven’t returned regret it later in life, according to some students who have dropped out.

Wisconsin Public Service Commission has granted Northern States Power Co. a 13 percent, $14.16 million retail electric rate increase. The increase became effective April 22.
