ERNEST J. SEVERSON

Ernest J. Severson, age 100, of Glenwood City, WI died Monday, April 18, 2016 surrounded by his family at Glenhaven Inc. in Glenwood City, WI.

Ernest was born December 7, 1915 in Eau Claire, WI to Andrew and Emma (Halvorson) Severson. He was raised in the Eau Claire area until entering  the US Army Air Corps as a pilot on August 16, 1941. During WWII he was stationed at Midway as a Captain where he commanded  a squadron. Ernest married Pearl Hoff August 15, 1941 at Travis Park Methodist Church in San Antonio, TX. He continued serving until January 2, 1946. Upon their return to WI he farmed in rural Glenwood for many years while earning his masters degree in Special Education, going on to teach for several years in the New Richmond School District. He learned to play the fiddle at age 10 and played for many bands in the area and famous bands that toured in the area. He enjoyed traveling and skiing as a young boy and he also enjoyed ski  jumping. He loved fishing and being with family and friends visiting and cross country skiing. He was a big supporter of Special Olympics.

Ernest is preceded in death by his parents, wife Pearl, son Richard, brother Norman and sisters Esther Severson, Ruth Schuparra and Junice Tiller.

Ernest is survived by his children: James Severson of Las Vegas, NV, Mary Severson of Menomonie, WI, Elizabeth (Donald) Frazier of Clayton, WI and Dennis (Jill) Severson of Augusta, WI; eight grandchildren: Richard (Leslie) Frazier, Patricia (Michael) Markun, Jacob Severson, Emmalie (Kyle) Stay, Matthew, Seth, Silvia and Nathaniel Severson; one great-granddaughter Jessica Nevalainen; sister Alice Catlin of Glendale, AZ. He is further survived by many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Memorials are preferred to ARC of Dunn County.

Funeral services will be held 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 23, 2016 at Holy Cross Lutheran Church with Reverend Diane House officiating. Burial will be in the Glenwood Cemetery Glenwood City, WI. Friends may call at the Anderson Funeral Home in Glenwood City on Friday, April 22, 2016 from 4 to 8 p.m. and one hour prior to services Saturday at the church.
