Work is progressing on the ethanol plant on state Highway 170 between Wheeler and Boyceville. West Wisconsin Renewable Energy Cooperative officials expect the plant to be open by the middle of the fall.

A contract to serve as Colfax High School principal in 2006-2007 has been offered to John Dachel, currently an assistant principal at Prairie Farm.

John Jahr, village clerk-treasurer, described voter turnout as “almost non-existent” for the April 4 spring election.

A community forum on population growth in the Elk Mound school district is scheduled for April 19.

Two write-in candidates were elected as village presidents in the April 2 spring election: Gust Fehr (Colfax) and Don Miller (Elk Mound).

Attendants at solid waste collection sites in Dunn County may soon become county employees. A suggestion that they be paid by the towns or villages where the sites are located was rejected by representatives of those communities.

Julian Logslett announced that dates for the 1991 Colfax Free Fair will be June 27 – 30.

The Colfax Village Board approved giving village employees a $100 per month raise and approved raising the pay for village trustees to $100 per year, with $30 for attending the annual board of review. The raise would only go to those trustees elected April 7. The remaining trustees’ pay will stay the same until after the next election.

State Highway 40 from I-94 to Colfax will be resurfaced in June.

Carrie Mousel, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Mousel of Elk Mound, was one of 39 winners in the Quill and Scroll’s national writing contest. Her entry was among 653 entries in that division.

Last Wednesday evening, while doing the chores at his farm, Erling Peterson was kicked by one of the cows and sustained a broken leg.

After 13 years, Ausman Quevillon disposed of his shoe repair shop. Bud Barum of Albertville is the new owner.

Yvette Viets, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Wayne R. Viets of Mukelto, Washington, received honorable mention in a Girl Scout cookie bake-off. Her entry was a date nut chew.

April 12, 1951

A near record crowd of 211 people attended the 29th annual Father Sons Banquet at Colfax Lutheran Church.

A former Colfax man was the first from the area to die in Korea. Private-first-class Bernard Scovell was killed in action on February 13, 1951.

April 14, 1916

A meeting of the Colfax potato growers was held in the opera house Saturday, April 8. S.S. Sivertson was elected president. Martin Fruvog was elected vice president. George T. Vorland was elected treasurer.

People of this village and vicinity should not fail to see “Ole, the Swede Detective” at the opera house Wednesday, April 19. Ticket prices 25 cents and 50 cents.

The Colfax Horse Company will have a horse auction April 15. A fee of $1 will be charged for listing your horses for sale and 1 percent of purchasing price if sold.
