The Glenwood City Boys’ Basketball team used a furious fourth quarter comeback to defeat Eau Claire Regis 46-42 in a Division Sectional. The win sends the Hilltoppers (25-0 overall) to the State Tournament in Madison.

Tyler Haakenson, a tenth grade wrestler from Glenwood City, has the opportunity of a lifetime to represent his sport, town, and country as a People to People Sports Ambassador.

For the second time in three weeks a truck has collided with a Canadian National train at the crossing on 150th Ave. in the Town of Glenwood.

Figures released recently by County Clerks of both St. Croix and Dunn Counties show increase in population by the completed census of 1990 show an increase in population. St. Croix County shows an increase of 16%, bringing the total population to 520,251. Dunn County showed an increase of 959 people, bringing the total to 35,273.

Boyceville’s Secondary Principal Bill Wold highlighted Monday night’s school board meeting here with a presentation on educational television programing that would be provided by Whittle Communications.

The 1990-91 Hilltopper Girls’ Basketball Team was named as  the Dunn-St. Croix Conference Champion team for the second consecutive year.

Roberta Lifto, the 19-year-old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Melvin F. Lifto of Glenwood City, was crowned Miss Marshfield 1966 before a near-capacity crowd of 1,200 persons in the Columbus High School auditorium last Saturday evening.

Wayne Koene, vocational agriculture instructor at the Glenwood City high school for the past five years, has resigned his position here effective July 1, to take a position as Farm Editor of the Farm Service Department of Station WBAY-TV at Green Bay.

The Glenwood City Implement Co. was robbed last Friday afternoon of $115.00, the robbery taking place when there was no one in the company office for a few minutes.

Sally Rasmussen, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Rasmussen, was recently selected to represent Glenwood City at the twenty third session of Badger Girls State. Stephen Foust, son of Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Foust, was recently selected  to represent Glenwood City at the twenty-fifth session of Badger Boys State.

The stockholders of the St. Croix Valley Cooperative Dairies, convened at their annual meeting last Saturday afternoon and voted in favor of operating their creamery under one roof. The co-op had previously operated three plants, one at Forest, one at Emerald and the other at Glenwood City.

Glenwood City will again have a jewelry store as Earl Handeland on Monday announced that he will open a jewelry store here in the building formerly occupied by the W. W. Winchester Jewelry store that closed a short time ago.

Mike Mathison of the Mathison Feed Mill in Downing today announces that he is the exclusive dealer for the full line of farm feeds manufactured by Doughboy Industries, Inc. of New Richmond.

February 24, 1921

Next Tuesday evening, March 1, at 7:30 p.m. at the home of Mr. and Mrs. A. J. VanderHiden on First street, there will be a re-organization meeting of the Glenwood City advancement association.

John Callahan, personally known to hundreds of the Tribune’s readers, is a candidate for the position of State Superintendent of Public Instruction at the election to be held April 5, 1921.  Mr. Callahan has served in Wisconsin public schools for over 30 years, including eight years as supervising principal of the grades and high school of Glenwood City.

The largest concrete bridge in Dunn County will be erect this year in the town of Sand Creek, spanning the Red Cedar river. This will be one of the most important steps to be taken in developing Trunk Line No. 64.

In Boyceville there are two candidates for the position for village president – incumbent Ed Evenson and challenger Joe Petryk – and four candidates for two village board seats – incumbent Art Nelson, Jr., and challengers Joe Pieters, Harry Joles, Jr., and Chuck Bartlett. For the two positions on the board of education for the Boyceville School District, candidates are incumbents Wenzel “Bunny” Humpal and Ken Mattison, and challengers O. K. Hedlund and Jean Yonda.

Paul and Marilyn Score have been hosting a Brazilian exchange student, Alex Kallas of Brazil.  He said that the farm the size of the Scores’ is big enough to support three or four Brazilian families.

Julie Robinson, winner of the March 23 annual Boyceville Spelling Contest, competed in the regional contest March 28 at the Greenfield elementary School at Baldwin. Robinson was selected to represent Boyceville students in grades 5-8 when she won the local competition.
