Colfax senior Ashley Stobb will be among those whose achievements will be recognized during the Herb Kohl Educational Foundation luncheon April 1 at North High School in Eau Claire.

The Elk Mound school district will hold a public forum April 19 at the high school to discuss increased population growth in the district.

Dr. Lee P. Bjurquist, superintendent of the Colfax school district, will begin his 25th year as superintendent in April. Dr. Bjurquist will be retiring at the end of the school in June after 36 years in education.

An eight-hour class schedule will be instituted for junior and senior high school students at Colfax in 1991-92. The eight period schedule will add five minutes to the school day.

Deb Johnson’s second grade class set a school record when every student met the reading goals for all five months in the Book It reading incentive program sponsored by Pizza Hut.

Cub Scouts in Pack 42 who received Webelos badges and other awards at the March meeting were Justin Faust, Sean Daley, Matthew Flatland, Guy Hazeltine, Josh Hagen, Trent Liebich, Shane Bachmann, Nathan Haugle, Tyler Moen, and Cody Justice.

If “satisfactory funding” is available, Colfax will build a new wastewater treatment plant in the form of a lagoon system. The estimated cost is $710,500.

Pat Glasier reopened Jahr’s Golden Cup March 11 as Pat’s Place. Pat retained the staff, which includes kitchen helper Melva Ellingson and waitresses Janet Haines, Hattie Bosben and Eldoris Faust. She also hired Vickie Komro.

A Scandinavian Festival is scheduled at District One Technical Institute in Eau Claire on April 4. The cost of the smorgasbord is $7. The evening program and dance is $3.

March 31, 1966

With 32 teams entered in an area dartball tourney played at Prairie Farm last week, the Holden team from Colfax succeeded in winning the championship.

Repairs are to be made to the village well Thursday, April 7. Residents are asked to fill containers the night before to insure having a supply of water so that the tank may be full in case of an emergency on Thursday.

Five Colfax High School students were among 183 students from northwestern Wisconsin who received “A” ratings in the Eau Claire District Forensic Contest March 26. There were 458 participants. The five from Colfax were Vicky Johnson, Julie Peterson, Michael Hovland, Marsha Hainstock, and Judy Rognstad.

March 29, 1951

Over 650 worshippers attended Easter Sunday services at Colfax Lutheran. The 7 a.m. service had 250 people, and more than 400 people attended the second service.

The Gamble Store Grand Opening Sale was a great success. Mr. and Mrs. Mendus Western report that over 400 visitors were served coffee and a doughnut. Their special on roses at 77 cents a dozen was sold out long before noon.

The Altar Guild of the Colfax Lutheran Church will serve coffee and cake in the afternoon of election day, Tuesday, April 3, in the basement of the Municipal building.

March 31, 1916

The Carey Transfer Company of Eau Claire will complete the distribution of the raw material for the transmission line from the Wissota Dam to the Twin Cities within about three weeks. This transmission line will be quite the longest in service in the United States, and the voltage of the current carried on it will be the highest. The steel for the towers is being delivered by railroad at Chippewa Falls, Eagle Point, Colfax, Wheeler, Boyceville, Downing, Emerald, Cylon, New Richmond, Burkhardt, Stillwater and Hudson, and thence from the railroad stations by team over the roads to the right of way.

Herman L. Ekern, ex-insurance commissioner of this state, will address the voters of Colfax and vicinity in the Opera House on Friday evening of this week. Don’t fail to hear him.

Arrangements are being made by the young men of the village to give a Return Leap Year Ball on Friday evening, April 7th, at the Colfax Opera House.
