A foot of heavy wet snow fell in the Colfax area March 13.
Coached by Vicki Maves, a team of Colfax fifth graders (the Spying Teddybears) will represent their school in the Destination Imagination problem solving state competition April 8 in Stevens Point.
Following a series of closed sessions, the Colfax Board of Education has trimmed the list of candidates for the high school principal position down to ten names. Dennis Geissler, the current principal, will take over as superintendent at the beginning of 2006-2007 school year.

For the second straight year, Ryan Wolfe, son of Cletus and Geri Wolfe, was the winner in the Colfax Elementary-Junior High School Spelling Bee March 18.
The Colfax Board of Education has approved a cooperative wrestling team with Elk Mound next winter.
Champion of the dartball league tournament March 18-19 was the Elk Mound Elks, representing the United Methodist Church of Elk Mound. Players included Bruce Jenson, Al Stokes, Gary Harrison, Bob Moats, Keith Meyer, Vic Jenson, Wayne Harrison and LaVerne Meyer.
Regular season champion of the church dartball league was the Holden Wildcats with a 38-16 record. Players included Curt Knutson, Gaylon Gotliebson, Marc Lorenzen, Milt Knudson, Ron Krueger, Roger Knutson, Joe Hagberg and Rick Gotliebson.

The Colfax Village Board has started to consider building a lagoon system as a new wastewater treatment facility that would cost an estimated $800,000.
Colfax volunteer firefighters responded to a grass fire at 1 a.m. three miles west of Colfax on county Highway BB. It was one of three grass fires handled by the Colfax fire department that day. Lloyd Hainstock, fire chief, issued a burning ban until further notice.
Nearly submerged in the Red Cedar River was a car operated by Wendy Lee of Bloomer. Lee had left her car parked on the river bank at 22-Mile Ford, and deputies with the Dunn County Sheriff’s Department suspect someone pushed it into the river where it drifted 25 yards downstream.

For the first time this year, school was cancelled following eight inches of heavy, wet snow March 22.
Duane Dieckman, administrator at Area Nursing Home, reports that the nursing home is almost full with 36 resident and only two rooms unoccupied, meaning there is only room for four more people.
The Colfax High School junior class play, “Love is Contagious” (a comedy hit!) will be performed Thursday and Friday, March 24-25, at the Colfax High School gymnasium. Tickets are 75 cents for adults and 35 cents for students.

The first Brotherhood, or Fathers-Sons, Banquet was held at Holden Church Friday night. The toasts to Fathers by Paul Strand and to Sons by Byron Berg were well received. Clifford Peterson, president of the Brotherhood, was the toastmaster.
Heavy, wet snow caused the roof to collapse at O&N Lumber Company Sunday afternoon. Heavy snow fell Saturday night. Don Holt, manager, said all seemed well Sunday morning. About 4 p.m., the roof crashed to the ground.
Gambles (“The Friendly Store”) held its grand opening sale Saturday, March 24. Mendus Western recently purchased the store. Roses were on sale for 77 cents a dozen, regularly $4.50 a dozen. A Coronado gas kitchen range was advertised for $94.95.
The Audio Theatre in Colfax is showing the motion picture “Albuquerque” Friday and Saturday night, March 23 and 24 (in Cinecolor!), starring Randolph Scott and Barbara Britton.

Reports say that the Lange Canning Company of Eau Claire has landed an immense contract with a Canadian firm for canning Irish Stew for shipment to Halifax. The contract calls for 500,000 cans of stew a week, and it runs for a year. The stew is calculated to constitute a complete ration for the soldier.
Sam Nelson has bought the Melony farm of 320 acres south of Wheeler. It is one of the best in this section and has been in the hands of the Melony family for more than a half-century.
The Colfax Store Co. is offering 100 pounds of granulated sugar for $6.90 on Saturday, March 25, with a grocery order amounting to more than $5.
