ELAINE M. CRESS

Elaine M. Cress, age 94 of Clear Lake, WI, passed away on Monday, February 29, 2016 at her home.

Elaine Marie Cress was born on January 18, 1922, in Glenwood City, WI, the daughter of Henry and Cecilia (Rosciszewski) Berends. She grew up in the Glenwood City area, was baptized and confirmed at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church there and she attended country school. Elaine was married to Herbert P. Cress on June 13, 1942 at St. Patrick’s Catholic church in Erin Prairie, WI. Together they made their home in Forest Township where they operated a dairy farm and raised three sons, Raymond, Kenneth and Ronald. In addition to farming, Elaine and Hub owned and operated the Midway Bar in Clear Lake from 1963 to 1970 before moving to Clear Lake in 1969.

Elaine was an active member of St. John’s Catholic Church, serving with St. John’ the Baptist Guild for many years. She enjoyed embroidery, gardening, cooking and doing puzzles. Elaine especially loved spending time with her family, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Herbert “Hub” Cress; parents, Henry and Cecilia Berends; grandson, Joshua Cress; brother, Francis Berends; sisters, Delores Lechner, Adeline Larson, Angeline Olson, Arliss Warmuth, Adelaide Brathal, and Vivian Booth.

Elaine is survived by sons Raymond Cress – Clear Lake, WI, Kenneth (Susan) Cress – Clear Lake, WI, Ronald (Ileene) Cress – Clear Lake, WI; Grandchildren Jennifer Johnson – Minneapolis, MN, Troy (Sandy) Cress – Clayton, WI, Jason (Jessica) Cress – Centuria, WI, Nathan Cress – Minneapolis, MN, Charissa (Ron) Dorn – Danbury, WI; Great-Grandchildren Asher Cress, Anneka Cress, Moriah Cress, Danny Wampole, Jersey Wampole, Wyatt Wampole, Daisy Dorn, Dahlia Dorn, AnnaDora Dorn, Wayne Dorn, Duke Dorn, Archer Dorn, Jacquelyn Olson and Kayla Olson; Sisters – Audrey Smith, JoAnn (Tom) Donahue; brother and sister-in-Law – Evie Berends and Fred Warmuth; many nieces, nephews, family and friends

Visitation was on Friday, March 4, 2016 from 4 – 7 p.m. at the Scheuermann Funeral Home and one hour before the service on Saturday at the church.

Mass of Christian Burial was held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, March 5, 2016 at St. John’s in Clear Lake, WI. Fr. John Long was the celebrant and music was provided by Marian Schmitz and St. John’s Choir.

Casketbearers were Asher Cress, Jason Cress, Nathan Cress, Troy Cress, Ron Dorn, and Jennifer Johnson.

Interment was at the Clear Lake Cemetery in Clear Lake, WI.
