A daughter, Amelia Jordan Herrick, was born Feb. 9 at Luther Hospital in Eau Claire to Rhonda and Austin Herrick of Bloomer.
After the Colfax girls defeated Eau Claire Regis in regional play, the Vikings were knocked out of the playoffs by Boyceville for the third straight year, losing the regional final 45-42.
Seven boys from the Colfax basketball team were recognized on senior night before the game against Elmwood including Jake Harder, Steve Price, Tristan Wolff, Jeremy Blomberg, Scott Miller, Seth Hilson and Andy Berres.

A daughter, Kara Justine Katzbahn, was born Feb. 24 to Kevin and Mia Katzbahn of Colfax.
An estimated 1,500 people attended the annual Colfax FFA Alumni Farm Toy Show Feb. 24 in both high school gyms.
After a big upset over D-SC Conference champion Elk Mound 43-40 in the first round of regional play, the Colfax boys went on to defeat Durand 88-66 then won the regional championship with a 41-40 win over Boyceville. It is the first regional title for coach Andy Meade with the Vikings.

The Department of Natural Resources will be touring the Colfax wastewater treatment plant and will attend the village board meeting March 16. The DNR has ordered the village to build a new plant which would cost around $1 million dollars while the village would like to rehabilitate the facility for about $60,000.
After winning the D-SC championship, Elk Mound lost their sub-regional opener 64-62 to Altoona. Mike Lucarelli, a former Colfax player, sank two late free throws to win the game for Altoona. Mounder Bruce Myers ended his high school career with a 29 point performance to lead his team.
Also in boys’ basketball action, Colfax lost a regional semi-final game 80-71 to Chetek. Bulldog Tom Gustafson, nephew of Colfax head coach Frank Kyes, made 24 free throws in the contest while Jamie Knudson led the Vikings with 23 points.

Local residents Norbert Buchner, Robert Larson, Elmer Stene and Axel Honaas attended the 35th annual meeting of the Farmers Union Central Exchange in St. Paul.
Born to Mr. and Mrs. Lew Blanski (nee Carol Christianson) of Los Angeles, a daughter, March 6.
A cradle shower for Mrs. Jacob Loew of Tilden was given at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Herman Schmidtt in Chippewa Falls.

Kenneth Haugle and Fred Dobbs of Colfax left for induction into the U. S. Army to Fort Sheridan, Ill.
The North Running Valley Church was filled with family and friends Feb. 25 to honor Mr. Andrew Peterson, one of the founders of the congregation and the oldest living member, on his 80th birthday.
Colfax had but little trouble defeating the Stanley quint in a sub-regional game 50-38 at Eau Claire senior high school as Donnie Hammer scored 15 points. They now move on to play Eau Claire.

John Morning, Chippewa County’s oldest resident who was known by many of our locals, died recently at his home in New Auburn at age 103.
With its next issue, The Messenger closes its 19th year of existance. Some healthy child!
Julias Foslid has discontinued his bakery business here and at present is in the Dakotas on some business mission.
