JUDITH MARY GEHRING WILLIAMS

Judith Mary Gehring Williams, 73, of Morristown, New Jersey, passed away on February 27, 2014 at Cougar Springs Assisted Living in Redmond, Oregon, after a long illness.

Judy was born to Paul and Muriel Gehring in Eau Claire, Wisconsin in July, 1940. After living briefly in Sand Creek, she spent most of her childhood in Colfax, where she graduated from Colfax High School in 1958. She then went on to obtain a Bachelor of Arts in English at Saint Olaf University in Northfield, Minnesota. There, she met and eventually married Paul Williams of Vancouver, Washington. Judy and Paul went on to have two children, David and Jeffrey.

Judy combined her loves of education and writing to become a writer and editor in the educational publishing industry in the greater New York City area. From the early 1980s until she could no longer work several years ago, she enjoyed writing and editing many types of textbooks. She was especially fond of U.S. history, particularly the history of both her area and of the West, and she also enjoyed researching both her family history and the civil war era. Through her work, Judy made many friends who enjoyed her sharp wit, generous nature, and love for animals, particularly cats.

Judy is survived by her son Jeffrey Williams and daughter-in-law Masayo Williams, of Valley Stream, New York, and her son David Williams and grandchildren Sequoia and Aurora Williams, of Redmond, Oregon. Also in her thoughts were uncle Duane Gehring, cousin Marcia Thompson, sister-in-law Susan Gehring, nieces and nephews Daphne Foreman, Nathan Gehring, Jason Gehring, Matt Zobal, and Silas Zobal, and her many grand-nieces and grand-nephews. She will be missed.

Visitation will be at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, June 21 at the Colfax Lutheran Church, to be followed by a Memorial Service at 4:00 p.m. and Commital at Evergreen Cemetery in Colfax. For more information please contact David Williams at dxerdavew@gmail.com
