Is it a big beautiful bill?
Last week the Congress passed President Trump’s “Big Beautiful Bill” with only Republicans voting for it. I have reservations about the bill, just because it might raise the national debt, and that is against my feeling of not unloading our debt onto our grandchildren.
President Trump made a comment about the bill after Congress had passed it saying, “only Republicans voted for the bill because the Democrats hate me (Trump)” He continued saying something like this, he hates the Democrats.
I hate the word hate. How can we get any thing accomplished in this nation if the two parties hate each other? I’m not going to make Bible verses a regular item in this column but a translation I found from Proverbs 10-12 states: “Hatred stirs up conflict, but love covers all wrongs.”
The senior Senator from New York, Democrat Chuck Schumer required the Senate Clerk to read the entire bill, some 940 pages long, out loud. It was his attempt to stall the bill in the Senate. Schumer criticized the bill by saying that “tens of millions will lose health care and millions of jobs will disappear”.
But, President Trump praised the bill saying it will benefit workers and families making less than $50,000 annually and eliminates tax on tips, overtime and Social Security. It spends $12.5 billion on modernization of our air traffic control system, plus a tax deduction on Made in America auto loan interest, and it cuts $1.5 trillion in spending.
I am sure that the bill will be a focal point in the November 2026 election and I know we will all hear about its good and bad points, starting next week.
If you remember some time ago, when the Obama Health Care bill was in front of Congress, the Democrats were in a rush to get it passed, told other members of Congress not to read the bill, but just vote for it and they can read it later.
I had to look to see how many pages that bill contained. One spot indicated that the Obama Health Care bill was 64,000 pages long at one time, but just 1,200 pages when it made its way to President Obama’s desk.
Thanks for reading! ~Carlton
