On Friday, December 13, 2024 at 11:30 p.m., a Wisconsin State Patrol Trooper attempted to stop a red Chevrolet Cruze for speeding on Interstate 94 westbound near the Dunn / St. Croix County line. The vehicle failed to yield and exited the interstate at State Highway 128.
A vehicle pursuit was initiated as the vehicle traveled northbound on Hwy 128 in excess of 100mph. The pursuit continued northbound on State Hwy 128 into the City of Glenwood City. The fleeing vehicle reduced speed to approximately 40mph while traveling east through the city on Oak St.
At the intersection of Oak St. and 320th St, the fleeing vehicle failed to negotiate a 90-degree curve and entered the east ditch. The vehicle sustained minor cosmetic damage along with a flat right front tire before traveling back onto the roadway. With the right front tire flat, the fleeing vehicle continued for approximately 1/4 mile north on 320th St. before pulling off of the roadway into a wooded area. The Juvenile male driver fled on foot into the woods and the Juvenile female passenger remained with the vehicle.
During questioning, the juvenile passenger stated the driver was in possession of a handgun at the time he fled from the vehicle. A perimeter was established and an alert was sent out via St. Croix County’s Alert Mass Notification System to residents in the immediate area to shelter in place.
The St. Croix County Sheriff’s Office launched a drone with thermal imaging capabilities to search for the driver. Footprints from the driver were located coming from the woods behind a residence on Walnut Ridge Drive. It appeared the fleeing driver was attempting to locate an open building and/or an unsecured vehicle. A lengthy K9 track was conducted as the driver was not dressed for the weather. The track traveled south through the residential portion of town, towards Logghe Trucking, and ended approximately 2 miles from where the vehicle was abandoned at a property on Rustic Road 4. The juvenile driver was not located but his identity is known.
The Wisconsin State Patrol will be conducting the investigation into the incident. The Wisconsin State Patrol was assisted by the St. Croix Count Sheriff’s Office, New Richmond Police Department, and River Falls Police Department. The Glenwood City Ambulance was requested and put on standby to assist if needed.
