David W. Casper

David Casper
David W. Casper, age 83, of Knapp, WI, passed away peacefully on the family farm September 11, 2024, with his son Lee by his side.
He was born on January 7, 1941, in Menomonie, WI, to parents William and Frances (Liermann) Casper. David attended The Liermann School through 8th grade and later graduated from Dunn County Aggie in 1958.
David was a lifelong member of St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, where he was baptized and confirmed. He had a strong faith in the Lord and frequently said, “The Lord will provide.”
He married Vicki Wendt on August 16, 1969, at the church, and that same year they moved to his family farm in the Town of Lucas. They raised dairy and beef cattle together for many years and had three wonderful children—Mark, Paula, and Lee. David farmed all of his life, and the fifth generation of Caspers continues to work the land today.
Besides farming, David was a member of the Farm Bureau and active on his church’s cemetery board for a number of years. He always enjoyed visiting with other agricultural enthusiasts and helping people out whenever they needed a hand.
David will be remembered for his love of John Deere tractors, especially his two-cylinders and his John Deere 830. He will also be remembered for his love of polka music, visiting tractor dealerships, watching trains chug past the farm, eating ice cream, and reading any country newspapers or magazines he could find.
He had a special connection with animals, particularly the many dogs and cats he owned over the years. More importantly, he cherished time spent with his family, often discussing faith, community, and everyday life.
David spent his final day as he would have wished—enjoying a car ride with one of his sons, visiting his brother Richard, and sharing ice cream with his family. It was a simple, joyful day, surrounded by those he loved.
David is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Vicki; children Mark (Shirley) Casper, Paula (Casper) Danovsky, and Lee Casper; and grandchildren Hannah Danovsky, Chloe Danovsky, Gracie Casper, Jed Casper, and Bo Casper. He is also survived by his brother Richard (Jacki) Casper; friends Dave and Lynn Dummer, Dave and Helen Blicher, and Jan Ziebell; neighbors Larry and Marge Johnson; and his special dog, Tippy.
He was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, and many friends, especially Don Keck and Jim Ziebell.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, September 17, 2024, at St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Menomonie, WI, with Pastor Geoffrey Kieta officiating. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Monday, September 16, 2024, at Olson Funeral Home in Menomonie, WI, and one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will follow at St. Paul’s Lutheran Cemetery in Menomonie, WI.
