Coffee Time
How many of you take time in the morning to visit some area establishment for an eye opener and sip on a cup of coffee. Or maybe it’s a local bar for that Bloody Mary to get the day started.
What ever you do, most of the time it’s with some friends, an accomplice or even a relative and this gives you some time to talk over yesterday’s events and maybe make a plan for the rest of the day.
For me, it’s at the Brothers establishment on Downing’s Main Street where six or eight of us gather to solve all the world’s problems.
We start with bad mouthing the Democrats and praising the Republicans, or, is it the other way around?
And, we can’t get finished without a long dialogue about the presidential candidates and then the discussion will move on to local town or village officials and especially the Dunn County Waste and Recycling conundrum. In the meantime, a few stories are told, some of them are even true stories.
And that brings me to Nancy Pelosi and the hair cut she got at a closed hair salon, that has been flashed all over the airwaves. Ask me if I care if she got a haircut and was not wearing a mask? I went to the store the other day with a mask on and everybody knew whom I was so I don’t wear it to the store anymore.
Pelosi and all the rest of our political leaders need to stand up against these protesters and let them know how wrong it is to damage and destroy, loot and burn a communities’ local businesses and they can start with a long talk with the Black Lives Matter movement. We need to put our county back together and all live in harmony. But, during the Democratic National Convention, they left out the words “Under God” twice while reciting the National Anthem. What kind of changes are they proposing?
On a note of a much lighter item of news is that one day last week, as we were enjoying a coffee at Downing, Bob Utphall, the master gopher hunter, invited everyone to stop by his car parked on Wilson Street to look at the gophers he had got that morning (please see the accompanying picture). The question was, why are they tied to your radio antenna and not put them in the vehicle? The answer is, his dog was in the car and they might get eaten.
Bob told us that he gets $2.50 from the local township for each tail, plus five bucks from the farmer.
