BOYCEVILLE — The Village board held their regular monthly meeting with some members at the village hall and others attending by the way of video conferencing because of the Coronavirus issue. The village boardroom was arranged so that no seats were closer than six feet apart and the board members listened to reports over their electronic devices. It took a while to get the system up and running and stop the feedback of the system before the board listened to reports.
First was Joel Timblin, who is the Airport manager, who informed the board about a Florida Ag Helicopter service that will be using the airport for three months this summer and needing to purchase fuel for their helicopters on a daily basis. He also noted to the board that they would like to park a camper in the village park near the airport for them to stay and requested a camping fee for the three months.
Timblin also requested that they purchase some 2,000 gallons for fuel for the airport to fill their tank as the price is now low, dropping to $2.76 a gallon and he requested they reduce their price from $4.09 to $3.80.
Later in the meeting as the board was discussing the lease of a vacant hanger at 719 Airport Camp Road and Timblin requested that the village rent the hanger to him on the same basis that he has for the hanger where his business is located.
After some discussion about some other person renting the space, the board voted five to two to rent the hanger to Timblin.
Eric Evenson of MSA out of Rice Lake informed the board about several items including the work on razing the old feed mill. He said that the contractor still had to finish the topsoil and seed it. But he questioned the board about maybe making the parking lot larger, but the board took no action.
Evenson spoke about the utility extensions along Highway 79 to serve the new Dollar General store, but noted a delay because of the developer’s agreement not having been completed. He also spoke about the Main Street project saying that, “We have developed an extensive punch list of items that need attention.” He noted that the Charlotte Street work also had a couple of small items yet to be completed.
Police Chief Greg Lamkin noted to the board that their calls for service were down last month, noting one reason was that because of no school and they are not doing the school walk through. He also requested continued support of the crossing guards, as they also have not been working but noted that they were out on Election Day.
Village Clerk/Treasurer Darlene Lee said she had one word, “Election,” and it was a lot of work, she praised her deputy Karen Adams for her help with the extra load at the election.
The board accepted a bid from Schmidt Electric to move the electrical post in the truck parking lot. The bid was for $1,980.
The board approved a site plan for a new office building to be built near Ohly’s warehouse on Nelson Drive. Matt McGee from Cedar Falls Buildings presented the board with information about the new structure saying it was a building of about 3,000 square feet for the offices that are currently located in the old Ford garage building on Main Street.
The board will hold a special meeting next Tuesday, April 21st.
