Virginia J. Schlough, age 85, of Connorsville, WI passed away Friday, April 6, 2018 at Mayo Clinic Health System in Menomonie.
The former Virginia June Best was born June 2, 1932 in the Town of Tiffany, Dunn Co. WI to Theodore and June (Earl) Best. She attended Best Valley Grade School and graduated from Glenwood City High School in 1949.
Virginia was secretary to the superintendent of Glenwood City Schools, she was personnel assistant at Doughboy in New Richmond and office manager to a local Head Start Program until retiring.
On October 23, 1976 Virginia married Lyndon Schlough in the “Little Brown Church in the Vale” in Nashua, Iowa.
Ginny loved going fishing with her sister Hazel Harrison. She was an excellent seamstress and made all the clothes for her children. She had a passion for gardening and loved to travel. Ginny was an avid sports fan and most importantly a Minnesota Twins fan! She and her husband, Lyndon enjoyed many vacations and days of fishing together. Christmas was her favorite holiday. Most of her family joined them on Christmas Eve for a supper of Ginny’s homemade dumplings with all the trimmings.
As a young adult, Ginny enjoyed roller skating. She was a chaperone for skating parties with her grade school-aged children and later enjoyed attending her grandchildren’s activities.
Ginny was a happy, delightful person who made everyone feel welcome in her presence. She will be missed by everyone who knew her and loved her!
Virginia is survived by her husband, Lyndon; children, Robert (Jan) Marko, Donna (Paul) Hedlund, Michael (Carolyn) Schlough, Barb (Randy) Dahms and son-in-law Jim Swanepoel; 13 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Theodore and June Best; her daughter Cynthia June Swanepoel; brothers, Teddy and Bob Best; sister Hazel Harrison; and grandson Scott Marko.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, April 10, 2018 at Grace Lutheran Church in Connorsville, with Pastor Greg Becker officiating. There will be visitation from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Monday at Olson Funeral Home in Menomonie and at the church one hour prior to the service on Tuesday. Burial will be in Mound Cemetery in the Town of Tiffany, Dunn Co. WI
