Richard P. Rose, Jr., “Dick”, passed away unexpectedly in the early morning hours on Wednesday, September 27, 2017 at Mayo Clinic Health System-Northland in Barron.
Dick was born October 17, 1931 to Richard and Margaret (Rovie) Rose, on the family farm, Town of Elk Mound, Dunn County, Wisconsin. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Katherine’s Lutheran Church, Beyer Settlement. He attended the Pleasant Valley School through 8th grade, until he left school to run the farm due to his father’s ill health.
On September 18, 1954 Dick married Marian Vergin at St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, Town of Prairie Farm, Wisconsin. They lived in Ridgeland and raised four children, Pam, Brian, David and Patty. The couple later divorced.
Dick has made Barron his home for 18 years, residing in the Park Lawn Apartments. Dick was well known and wore “many hats”. He worked at creameries, lumber yards, milk hauling, as the Ridgeland village constable, medical prescription transport, farm help, school bus driver, and in janitorial duties at Ridgeland Elementary and Dallas Headstart thru the Green Thumb Program. In his many roles, he loved to visit, loved to offer support and encouragement, and just loved to love. He will be well remembered for just loving all those kids that crossed his path, especially those little ones who needed their tears dried and shoes tied.
He had many passions and talents; woodworking, reading, visits to the restaurants, especially Susie’s, storytelling, reminiscing and singing. Many received a 5 a.m. wake up call on their birthday to his beautiful tenor voice. He had a wonderful sense of humor and loved to create laughter.
He is survived by two daughters, Pamela (Russell) Bruder and Patty (Jeff) Amundson, both of Prairie Farm, and two sons, Brian (Rachel) Rose of Bloomer, and David (Kathy) Rose of Gordon; a sister, Mary Kiekhafer of Colfax; 10 grandchildren, Christopher Bruder, Brandon (Lindsay) Bruder, Staci (David) Marvin, Brianne (Kraig) Link, Kyle (Kasey) Rose, Courtney (Jodene) Rose, Cale Rose, Afton Amundson, Ally Amundson and Gabe Amundson; 15 great-grandchildren, Nathan, Alayna, Isaac, Maya, Mason and Maryn Bruder, Noah and Grace Marvin, Dominik, Dnae, Mikaela, and Caden Rose, Marcus and Samuel Link, and Jovie Rose; nieces, nephews, cousins and many, many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Norman Rose; and sisters, Carol Haff, Shirley McKelvey and Janet Rose; and brothers-in-law, Erling Lunn, Daniel Kiekhafer, Allen Haff, and Jim McKelvey. By his own request, there will not be a funeral service.
A family graveside interment was at Evergreen Cemetery in Colfax. A celebration of life was held at Park Lawn Apartments in Barron October 1.
Funeral arrangements were handled by Rausch and Steel Funeral Home, Barron.
