Boyceville schools welcome two new instructors this year

BOYCEVILLE — The Boyceville Community School District welcomed just two new teachers to the staff this year.

The Bulldogs are joined this year by Renda Armstrong and Jodi Kanevra, both of whom will be working in the middle school/high school building.

The Tribune Press Reporter sent both new Bulldog teachers questionnaires to complete for profiles to be presented here. Below are profiles on both teachers based on the responses to the questionnaires.

Renda Armstrong

Armstrong graduated from high school in Scranton, Pennsylvania, in 1994, but attended Boyceville schools until 1991.

She completed her Bachelor of Science degree in Special Education at UW-Eau Claire in December 2012, and holds licenses for teaching students kindergarten through 12th grade with cognitive and learning disabilities.

She worked as a long-term substitute for the Boyceville school district this past school year, and served as a substitute teacher for Elk Mound, Menomonie and Boyceville from 2013 until she was hired to replace Nancy Anderson.

Armstrong will be serving as a middle school/high school special education teacher.

Jodi Kanevra

One of the two new teachers hails from the state of New York, and replaces Corey Smith as the 10th- and 12th-grade English instructor.

Kanevra graduated from high school in Livonia, New York, in 2004. She notes in her questionnaire she was also a Bulldog for four years. She obtained a bachelor’s in English from State University of New York Brockport in 2008, and completed a master’s in Literacy at SUNY Geneseo in 2010.

Prior to accepting a position with Boyceville, Kanevra taught for several years at Indian River High School in Philadelphia, New York. In order to apply for positions in Wisconsin, she had to transfer her teaching certification from New York. She describes teaching English as her passion.
