GENEVIEVE E. NELSON

Genevieve E. “Gen” Nelson, 105, formerly of Downing, died Thursday, September 7, 2017 at the American Lutheran Home in Menomonie.

Gen was born May 1, 1912 in Elk Mound to Carrie (Jensen) and Albert Howe. She graduated from Elk Mound High School. After business school she worked at the Bank, Creamery, and did housekeeping in Elk Mound  during the depression.

She married Paul Nelson on June 14, 1941 at the Elk Mound Lutheran Church.

They resided in Downing where Paul had the Fairway Foods General Store.

She worked at the post office as a clerk and eventually was the postmaster.

Gen was active in the Downing United Methodist Church and continued as a member there after moving to an apartment in Menomonie.

Gen is survived by sons: Peter (Barbara) Nelson of Eau Claire, Steve (Sue) Nelson of River Falls; grandchildren: Kristin (Josh) Thornburg of Louisville, KY, Mark Nelson of Golden, CO, Melinda Abel and Melissa Abel of River Falls. Also many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; brothers: Marshall (Mish), Vernon (Pal), Clifford (Bud); sisters: Lillian Beguhn, Ruby Nelson, and Doris Mortenson; also special daughter-in-law Sharon Nelson.

A funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, September 23rd at Downing United Methodist Church with visitation 1 hour prior to the service. Internment to follow at the Downing Cemetery.
