Ruth E. Johnson, age 98 formerly of Baldwin, passed away at the Augustana Care in Hopkins, MN on August 9, 2017.

Ruth was born in 1918 to Oscar and Augusta (Erickson) Blomgren in St. Croix County. She attended a one room country school, and graduated from Glenwood City High School, the Class of 1936.

In 1940, she was united in marriage to Eric Johnson. Their marriage was blessed with four children. They farmed near Glenwood City. Ruth graciously took care of her family and provided a loving and nurturing home. After her husbands passing, she spend many winters in California with her two sisters. Back in Wisconsin, Ruth bought, remodeled, rented and sold properties. 

Her “faith ventures” and early years during the Great Depression were documented and published in a book entitled “Planted by the Water.” Ruth was also known in this area for her beautiful paintings. At age 93, she began writing poems again, which were printed in the Baldwin Bulletin.

She was a devoted member of the New Life in Christ Church and an original member of the New Life in Christ singing group known as the “Merry Hearts.” She also taught bible studies for many years gleaned from a lifetime of study and experience.

Ruth was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two sisters and three of her four children. She is survived by her daughter, Linda (Bob) Shaw; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. 

A Celebration of Ruth’s Life will take place 11:00 a.m. on Friday, August 18th at the O’Connell Family Funeral Home, 1010 Newton St., Baldwin. A visitation will take place one hour prior to the service. A reception will immediately follow. Interment will take place at the Glenwood City Cemetery.
