RONALD D. GRUTT
Ronald D. Grutt, age 85, of Boyceville, WI died Thursday, April 6, 2017 at The Neighbors of Dunn County in Menomonie, WI.
Ron was born July 14, 1931 in Menomonie, WI to George D. and Viola F. (Skamser) Grutt. He was baptized November 22, 1931 and confirmed January 14, 1945 at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Boyceville, WI where he was life long member serving as head elder, and usher, ambassador, reader, Sunday School teacher, Thrivent congregational coordinator and vacation bible school teacher until the church closed in 2014.
Ron graduated from Boyceville High School in 1950 and entered the U.S. Army where he served from 1951 to 1953, serving in the Korean War with the Medical Company 15th Infantry Regiment 3rd Infantry Division reaching the rank of Staff Sergeant. He earned a Purple Heart and Bronze Star with Valor and several other medals.
Following his tour he attended the William Hood Dunwoody Industrial Institute in Minneapolis, MN from 1954 to 1956 in the course of Architectural Drafting and Estimating. Ron worked in the Engineering Department as a Senior Technician for the Soo Line Railroad and later the Canadian Pacific Railway for 41 years until retiring in 1997. He was member of the Harmon-Harris American Legion Post #314 in Boyceville, WI where was the post chaplain and a life member. He also belonged to the Dunn County Council American Legion as chaplain and finance officer and a Life Member of the VFW. He also served the Boyceville Educational Scholarship Trustee Inc. (Best) as vice president for three years, president for nine years and chair since 2013.
Ron is preceded in death by his father George in 1989 and Mother Viola in 1990. Ron is survived by cousins Dorian (Aneta) Spielman, Wyatt Spielman and Drew (Melissa) Spielman. He is further survived by other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 12, 2017 at Grace Lutheran Church in Connorsville, WI with Reverend Karl Rose officiating. Burial will be in the Tiffany Cemetery Boyceville, WI. Friends may call at the church on Wednesday from 9 to 11 AM. Local arrangements by the Anderson Funeral Home in Glenwood City, WI. Memorial preferred in lieu of flowers to Grace Lutheran Church and Best.
