1st Lt Casey Owen, a Boyceville High School student, received three awards at the Civil Air Patrol Eau Claire Composite Squadron annual awards banquet held on Thursday, January 12th in Eau Claire Wisconsin. Owen is the recipient of the 2016 Cadet of the year award from the Squadron. He also received the Air Force Association Outstanding Cadet Award and a High Academic Achievement award.
Owen has spent the last year earning his pilots certificate, attended two Civil Air Patrol National Cadet Special Activities and graduated from the Wisconsin Cadet Academy held at Volk Field during Civil Air Patrol’s Summer encampment. Cadet Owen is working to complete the Bronze level requirements for the Congressional Award program. Owen is currently the Commander of Cadets at the Eau Claire Composite Squadron, and is a member of the National Honor Society.
Owen hopes to attend the Air Force Summer Seminar, and or the Coast Guard Summer Session early this summer. He plans to return to Blue Beret, a National Cadet Special Activity held in Oshkosh during EAA Air Venture as a Cadet Staff member this summer. Cadet Owen has applied to another NCSA, where he would spend a week at the Air Force Specialized Undergraduate Advanced Pilots Training program. In the future, Owen plans to peruse a degree in engineering while continuing to advance his aviation training.
These awards were presented by the Civil Air Patrol’s Great Lakes Regional Commander Col. Edward Phelka and the Wisconsin Wing Commander Col. Rose Hunt.
