MELVIN C. SCHREIBER
Melvin C. Schreiber, age 82 of Glenwood City, Wisconsin, passed away December 14, 2016 at the American Heritage Care Center in Hammond, WI, after a courageous battle with bladder cancer.
He was born October 22,1934 in the town of Emerald, WI to Ernest and Dorothy (Jahn) Schreiber. He grew up on farms in Emerald and Glenwood Townships. He graduated from Glenwood City High School in 1953, and married Amaryllis Gunderson on September 30, 1955 at Colfax Lutheran Church, Colfax, WI. Three children were born to this union: Kevin of Glenwood City, Gene of Sedalia, MO, and Kathy of Lino Lakes, MN. He lived and worked in Anoka, MN from 1953 to 1964 at Char Gale Mfg. and was in the MN National Guard from 1957 to 1963. He had basic training at Ft. Leonard Wood, MO for six months. He then moved to a farm near Glenwood City in 1964. He worked at Armours in South St. Paul from 1965 to 1973, then bought a dairy herd in 1973 and sold them in 1997.
Melvin enjoyed being 4-H project leader when the kids were young, and attended as many of the music and sporting events for children and grandchildren as possible. He also enjoyed fishing, hunting, woodworking and collecting and repairing old engines. Melvin traveled to all 50 states and provinces of Canada, six countries in Europe, Australia and New Zealand. He met many people and maintained many friendships from those trips. Melvin held a seat on the Emerald Planning Commission and the Greenwood Cemetery Board.
Melvin is preceded in death by parents, Ernest and Dorothy Schreiber and sister Eileen Schreiber.
He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Amaryllis; Children Kevin (Denise Smith), Gene (Sherri) and Kathy Chaves (John Nicosia); grandchildren Krystle (Elywin) Siltman, Desirae (Devin) Laursen, Nick Crain, Kraig (Candi Lawson), Brian (Taylor) and Taylor; fifteen great-grandchildren and two more due in March. He is also survived by brother Duane, brother-in-laws Gilbert Gunderson and John (Susan) Gunderson, and sister-in-law Suzanne Gunderson, as well as nieces and nephews and many friends.
Funeral services were held 11:00 a.m. on Monday, December 19, 2016 at Holy Cross Lutheran Church with Reverend Diane House officiating. Burial was in the Greenwood Cemetery.
