Fire of undetermined cause damaged a wood storage building at the Misty Meadows Wood Products facility on Seventh Street in Glenwood City Tuesday morning. The fire apparently started in a wood drying system from their wood chipping operations.

The Boyceville Village Board took action to increase parking fees for semi-trucks in the village’s lot and also increased the parking fee for campers at the airport in the park. The new fees for campers are $15 per night without electricity and $20 per night with electricity, and $200 per month. For semi-trucks it is a ten dollar monthly permit fee or $120 per year, and if electricity is needed the charge will be $20 per month and $240 per year.

World War II veterans were honored at the annual Curry-Ainsworth Veterans Day program held Saturday, November 11 at Holy Cross Lutheran Church. Honored were Gilbert Mounce, Donald Munkwitz, Harold Anderson, Ernest Severson, Robert Bartz, Art Burmester, Clarence Hahn, Selmer Hanson, George Smith, Harold Stack, and Alvin Jeske.

The National Bank of Boyceville will be holding a grand opening of their new facility at the intersection of Highways 170 and 79 will be held on October 24, from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

The DNR will reissue a permit for effluent discharge for the village of Boyceville. It has been drafted but will be reissued on October 31.

The former Forest Feed Mill is now owned by “Forest Crossroads Inc.”, a group comprised of Miller Farms of River Falls, and Deiss and Ngent Feeds of Ellsworth.

Joel DeWitt and Holly Logghe were crowned as 1991’s Homecoming King and Queen.

Glenwood City sophomore Brianna Newland of Emerald again wowed ‘em at the National Cheerleaders Association summer tryout camp at UW-Stout and received All-American Cheerleader status. She will be representing Glenwood in the Hawaiian sun when she will appear with the other All-American Cheerleaders in the Aloha Bowl Parade. This is the second straight year Newland has been selected an All-American by the NCA.

The tax roll for 1966 for the Town of Springfield is up $5,418.83. The 1966 tax list for the Village of Downing is up $482.46 from the total tax roll from last year. The tax roll for the Town of Emerald is up only $310.30 over the tax roll for 1965.

Cindy Olson of Emerald was awarded one of the 1966 4-H member college scholarships, made by the St. Croix County 4-H Leaders Association.

Every 1st, 3rd and 5th Thursday of each month, driver’s license examiners will be here at the City Hall from 8:15 to 11:30 a.m.

The results of a preliminary survey to expand the building facilities of the Glenwood City Public School have been completed. Included in the proposed expansion are plans for new agriculture, industrial arts, and music facilities, plus an additional high school classroom space.

The Rev. Carl Fox, pastor of the Methodist church of Glenwood City, Emerald and Downing, will speak on the Menomonie radio station, WMNE, on Sunday afternoon, Dec. 2, from 1 to 1:30 p.m.

Mrs. Jessie Winterling of Downing was injured Sunday afternoon when her car skidded on a patch of ice. The accident happened at Erin Corners.

An important deal took place this week when J. P. Johnson purchased the interest of Chas. Cole in the Glenwood City Auto Co. The firm will expand the business and late this fall or early next spring will enlarge and remodel their present building into a modern brick-front garage, extending the entire distance from the opera house to Jensen and Fraher’s blacksmith shop.

On arising Sunday morning, Fred Evert found his Ford Touring car gone from his garage in the rear of his residence on East Maple street. The garage had been open and the thieves had evidently walked in and made away with the prize free and easy.

A large number of Legionnaires assembled at the city hall Tuesday evening and discussed many matters for the betterment of Stephen S. Curry Post No. 168, among other things the post will purchase an American Legion flag and has arranged to have a permanent case built for the rifles.

Ron and Sandy Bushinger are the new owners and operators of the Home Town Bakery at 411 Main Street, Boyceville. They took over the operation Nov. 16 from former owner Barb Robinson.

In January 1982, William Clark, a 1956 graduate of Boyceville High School, will have his 7th book published. Titled “Piddywack the Rompous,” it is being published by UW Foundation Press at UW-River Falls.

At a special meeting of the Boyceville Village Board on November 16, the board approved a $15,000 cut in the previously accepted 1982 budget and reduced a 1981 tax increase more than 25% to an increase of approximately 7%.
