Mike’s Auto Body Shop, owned by Mike and Amy Barstad, will be celebrating their grand opening this Saturday, November 4, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at their new facility at 111 Misty Court. Mike started his own business in 1994, but it took about five years of researching and planning to make the best decision to stay in the Glenwood City and open a state-of-the-art, full-service shop.

Boyceville senior Allison Logsdon and Glenwood City senior Derek Wink both competed in the State Cross Country championship in Wisconsin Rapids held last Saturday. Logsdon placed 91st in the girls’ race and Wink took 24th in the boys’.

Though overshadowed by the controversy of same-sex marriage, the question on whether to have the death penalty is just as heavily debated. In next week’s election, there will be a referendum question pertaining to the death penalty, but this will not make a change in the law, but inform the Legislation and Governor of the desires of the people.

Sidewalk improvements are underway in Glenwood City. Five blocks on the south side of Pine Street are getting new walks along with handicapped ramps at the street crossing.

The Common Council Monday night agreed to seek more funding for the former Legion property to allow for industrial expansion. At stake are two agreements that are being worked on that will keep present jobs in Glenwood City and create an opportunity for new jobs in the community. One is the WestCap Head Start and Housing and Energy program in the former Legion building, and the other  is a request from the Glenwood City Industrial Development to construct a 3,500 square foot building to be occupied by a new industry that makes machine parts.

Matt Shepard, 7 of Glenwood City, won third place at the National Pedal Pulling contest held Saturday, September 28, in Omaha, Nebraska.

On last November 9, R. C. Benson, local barber, purchased from Victor E. Gervais of Minneapolis, the former Sempf Store building at the corner of Oak and First streets presently is remodeling the building which will be completed in the near future. The building will be known as Rudie’s Barber Shop.

All homes in the northeast part of the city were without water all day Tuesday as a break in a six inch water main was being repaired.  The pipe was broken all the way around.

WANTED: We are paying 1.5 cents a pound for live standing cows, 3c a lb. for live standing horses and .5 cent a lb. for your down, dead or disabled horses and cattle suitable for mink food. The Community Telephone Company of Wisconsin advises that buildings are now being erected at Wheeler, Boyceville and Knapp as the first steps in the conversion of these three exchanges to Dial Operation.

Darel Smith, 15, late Monday afternoon had the misfortune of getting his arm caught in a corn picker. He was rushed to the Luther hospital in Eau Claire where it was necessary to amputate his right arm about three inches above the elbow.

The tax levy for the City of Glenwood was set last week  at $16,337.54, which will mean a tax rate for city purposes of $8.15 per each $1,000 of assessed valuation within the city limits.

Approval was given by the Boyceville School board to spend a $29,310 federal grant  on various projects to improve energy conservation measures at the Community School in Boyceville.

Construction on the Boyceville waste treatment works has been delayed until next spring. The facility, covering 27-acres of village owned property, is located in the far northwestern corner of the village.

By a one vote margin, the Boyceville Village Board voted not to accept Anne Schutts’ resignation as the village clerk. The decision came amid heated discussion and debate at the board meeting on Nov. 16. When Schutts turned in her letter of resignation on Nov. 4, she stated that Dec. 4 would be her last day. Schutts gave no reason in the letter for her resignation.
