Women’s Giving Circle grants $10,000 to local organizations
The Board of Directors at the Community Foundation of Dunn County with the Women’s Giving Circle has given $10,000 in grants to 7 local charitable organizations to encourage health and education through programs and resources for women and their families. The Women’s Giving Circle is honored to support these charities through this competitive grant cycle in 2016.
The recipients of this grant cycle are:
• Boys & Girls Club-Menomonie Center Academic Success Program Materials $1,350
• Dunn County Health Department Client Support Materials for Nurse Family Partnership Participants $1,510
• Family Resource Center for Eau Claire County Parent Café in Dunn County $2,340
• Literacy Chippewa Valley Eliminate Barriers for Adult Literacy Students in Dunn County $1,350
• Positive Alternatives Enhanced Intervention Services for Youth $1,350
• The Bridge to Hope Diaper Bank for Domestic Violence Victims $1,800
• The Giving Doll Materials for Dunn County Dolls $300
While all of the grants are special, a few really stood out to the membership of the Circle during their decision making:
• Nurse Family Partnership Client Support: Dunn County’s Health Department has created a Family-Nurse Partnership that gives expectant mother’s guidance and support to care for their baby up until the child’s second birthday. The program joins mothers and nurses together through nurse home visits, health education and case management. This evidence-based program has been shown to increase a variety of positive outcomes for the mother and child. The grant will supply gift supplies to encourage mothers to enter and commit to the program.
• Parent Support Group: The Family Resource Center has recently expanded their services to further support families with their home health and care by providing the Parent Café Program to parents and guardians in Dunn County. The program welcomes parents and guardians to come together to share a meal and discuss topics that will support building a happy and healthy family. It offers a consistent and comfortable environment for attendees to relax and open up to one another.
• Diaper Bank for Domestic Violence Victims: Bridge to Hope has created a “Diaper Bank” for those who have been subject to domestic violence in Dunn County. Through advocacy, education, and collaboration they have turned victims into survivors. The Diaper Bank supports mothers in parenting by providing free disposable diapers, encouraging reduced health risks for mother and baby. The fully funded grant allows The Bridge to Hope to purchase 14,000 diapers at less than half the cost through the National Diaper Bank Network.
The Women’s Giving Circle has made it their mission to “Improve life for women and families.” The support given through their grants and programs in 2016 will strengthen and empower women in Dunn County to lead better lives and promote health and happiness in their families.
