Town of Emerald is in the process of putting together prices and bids for the construction of a new town hall and shop. Recently the town purchased three acres along County Highway G for the site of the new facility. Town Board members said the present building is too small and that the shop area cannot store the town’s road equipment.

An open house is planned for the new Tiffany Town Shop for Saturday, October 28 from 1-5 p.m. The new building is for the town equipment and is located next to the town hall on Hwy. 79 and 1150th Street, four miles north of Boyceville.

What started as a couple of business women (Cheryl Wizykoski and Kathy Giles) wanting to do something for fall, has turned into Glenwood City’s First Annual Fall Festival, which will be happening this Saturday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Currently, Allied Processors Inc. of Boyceville has itself and the village in the spotlight because of its exorbitant wastewater treatment needs. But the emissions coming from the plant’s stacks has raised a stink among the Boyceville residents, too, in recent years.

Boyceville School Board member Craig Conklin of Wheeler was one of the four candidates for the Wisconsin Association of School Board’s Region 4 representative, but did not win the election bid.

The Boyceville High School held its homecoming activities last week. Jennifer Gundlach and Mike Danovsky reigned as queen and king.

Tom Strehlo, a senior tackle on the 1966 Stout State University Football Team, was voted honorable mention in the all district 14 National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics team. Tom is a graduate of Glenwood City high school and won seven letters when he starred in athletics here.

The Boyceville Farmers Cooperative Creamery Association will hold their annual meeting this Saturday evening, December 17, commencing at 7:30 in the Boyceville high school auditorium.

Directors of the Glen Hills Wastershed, Dunn and St. Croix County soil conservation supervisors and county board members inspected the site of the new dam that will form the 85 acre lake, the center of the recreational area to be developed in the town of Springfield about three and half miles south of Glenwood City.

A record number of voters turned out at the election Tuesday to return President Dwight Eisenhower and Richard Nixon to office. In the state Republican Vernon W. Thomson won the election for governor to succeed Gov. Walter J. Kohler, who did not seek reelection.

The service from the Wilson Lutheran Church will be broadcast from the station WMNE, Menomonie on Sunday, November 11, from 1-1:30.

The Glenwood City-Emerald-Hersey schools will be observing American Education Week from November 11-17. Open House will be held at the Glenwood City Schools on Tuesday, November 13.

October 6, 1921

Mrs. Ellen Jager received a telegram from the government Monday stating that the body of her son, Pvt. Steve S. Curry, killed in action, would arrive in New York about the 6th. Funeral service will be held in this city.

Manford Smith has sold his smith shop to Martinki Bros., formerly of Somerset, the deal being closed Friday. The new proprietors are both experienced workmen.

A. C. Fredler, an expert from the State Land-Clearing department, will be in the area for two days of demonstration on the use of dynamite and other explosives for blowing stumps and stones. All interested in learning the latest methods used in this work should attend one of the meetings, either at Bert Kam’s, north of Woodville; Louis Wienke’s, north of Glenwood City; Oliver Rye’s, north of Hersey; or C.H. Rice’s, north of Wilson.

After nine years of owning Retz Equipment, Jerry Retz is closing down the equipment and parts sales operation of the business. However, Retz may continue equipment service if there is a need for it. The remaining equipment and parts were put on the auction block Nov. 10-11.

Roughly 60 members of the Wis. National Guard Unit of Menomonie participated in a  forced-march live exercise Nov. 8 that ended in the rifle range east of the Boyceville airport.

A rural Glenwood City man is facing numerous charges coming from an incident involving an alleged theft of a tractor from Smith Implement Company east of Downing and a  17-mile chase lasting more than two hours. There will be several charges in both Dunn and St. Croix County.
