MARILYN DORINE ELSTAD SLIND
Marilyn Dorine Elstad Slind, 84 of Colfax, Wisconsin passed away on Tuesday, September 20, 2016, at Sandy Ridge Apartments in Colfax.
Marilyn was born October 23, 1931, at Menomonie Memorial Hospital to Alphin and Beryl Elstad of Boyceville Wisconsin. She grew up in Boyceville and graduated from Boyceville High School. After school she moved to St. Paul and worked for Northwest Airlines.
Marilyn married Jerry Slind on May 3, 1952. She joined Jerry in Okinawa where they lived for a year while he was stationed in the Air Force. They spent the next year in California before returning to Racine, Wisconsin in 1955 where Jerry began his teaching career. They moved to Colfax in 1958 with their three children. Jerry taught Industrial Arts at Colfax High School and Marilyn worked at Noer’s Drug Store.
Marilyn’s hobbies were reading, genealogy, doll collecting, auctions, crocheting afghans, and making quilts for the church. She volunteered as Cub & Girl Scout Leader, worked 20 years on bloodmobile, election board, various school and church events, and enjoyed her Tuesday morning coffee group. She spent time working in her flower beds and always had morning glories growing up the pillars in front of the house. She loved listening to music and often whistled to the Big Band tunes.
Marilyn was happy that she was able to stay at home when her children were growing up. She spent quality and quantity time with her Dad, Mom, and Aunt Ardie as they were growing older and needed help. She enjoyed traveling with Jerry to Australia, Europe, Hawaii, Norway, Denmark, Sweden and Alaska and they made it to all of the United States except Oregon in their retirement years.
Marilyn is survived by her three children, Mike (Karen) Slind of Lakeland, FL, Greg Slind of Menomonie, Susie (Doug) Rudesill of River Falls; grandchildren Megan (Jarod) Dachel, Miranda Slind (Jason Miller), Sara (Jon) Filarsky, Ryan (Whitney) Rudesill, Kyle (Carly) Rudesill; great-grandchildren Brynn & Avery Dachel, Luke Filarsky, and Ayla Rudesill; sister Adrienne (Jake) Evan; sister-in-laws Mary Slind, Norma Slind Williams, and brother-in-law Doug Slind and many nieces and nephews.
