Wanda M. Mortel, age 89, of Menomonie, WI passed away Monday, September 12, 2016 at The Neighbors of Dunn County in Menomonie.

She was born October 2, 1926 in the Town of Dunn, Dunn Co. WI to George and Orpha (Sumter) Skillings.

On Oct. 7, 1947 Wanda married Brownie Mortel at St. John’s Catholic Church in Glenwood City, WI.  Together they farmed in the Town of Emerald for many years.

Wanda worked for Fabri Tech in both Baldwin and Amery.  She also worked at U. W. Stout for a short period of and time and as a waitress at Exit 45.

She enjoyed doing ceramics, crocheting afghans and doilies and dancing. She loved listening to music especially big band and polka music. She also enjoyed traveling with her brother and sister-in-law in their RV.

Wanda is survived by her children, Terry (Kathy) Mortel of Clayton and Vickie (Morris “Butch”) Husby of Menomonie; grandchildren, Tracy (Randy) Lablanc, Mark (Deane) Ostenson, Ryan (Jo) Husby and Joshua (Katie) Husby; great-grandchildren, Kaylee, Stefie, Chelsie, Trisha, Kayla and Alaina; sisters, Irene Cotts and Lorraine Cotts; brothers, Dale (Kathy) Skillings, Dan (Marg) Skillings; a sister-in-law Dorothy Skillings and brother-in-law Robert Jensen; as well as other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Brownie; brother, Donald; sister, Marlys Jensen; brothers-in-law, Darold Cotts and Stan Cotts; grandson, Steven Mortel and great-grandson, Colton Husby.

A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, September 19, 2016 at Olson Funeral Home in Menomonie with Father James Kurzynski officiating.  There will be visitation at the funeral home one hour prior to the service on Monday.  Burial will be in St. John’s Catholic Cemetery in Glenwood City, WI.
