Tribune Press Reporter welcomes new reporter

by Cara Dempski

Hello readers! My name is Cara Dempski, and I am the new sports reporter and photographer for the Glenwood City Tribune Press Reporter. I will also be covering the Glenwood City, Boyceville, and Elk Mound School Districts and Elk Mound Village Board.

I am a 1996 graduate of Elk Mound High School and have a bachelor of science in Marketing and Print Journalism from UW – River Falls. I worked in direct sales for several years in St. Paul, MN before being laid off. I moved back to Elk Mound and started working at a factory.

After a few months of this work, I enrolled at UW – Eau Claire. I graduated in 2009 with a bachelor of social work, and went on to UW – Madison to pursue a master’s degree in social work. This was obtained in 2012.

My experiences since then have included working with young people going through mental health and addiction treatment, working for Child Protective Services in Milwaukee, and managing and providing direct client care in a group home.

I returned to Elk Mound in 2015 and began looking for a position closer to my home. I was pleased when, after contacting the editors of the Messenger and Tribune Press Reporter, I was invited in for an interview. After maintaining contact for one year, I was offered the position I now occupy on July 14.

If you see me around any of the towns I’m covering, please introduce yourself. I want to get to know the people and communities I’m covering, and the best way to do that is to get to know the people who live there. I’m also always looking for interesting people, places, and things to write about.
