Donald “Schilly” D. Schillinger, age 83 of Washburn, WI, passed away with his loving family by his side on July 17th, 2016 at the Northern Lights Health Care Center in Washburn.

Don was born on June 16th, 1933 in Wilson, WI, to Clarence “George” and Dorothy (Colburn) Schillinger.

Don graduated from Glenwood City High School in 1950 and he married Betty Smith, to this union four children were born: Vicki, Steve, Teri and Becki. Don was a very devoted father and husband, he was such a great caretaker not only of his family but of friends and others in the community. In the 1960s Don and Betty moved the family to the Washburn area, working for the DMV he gave a lot of the teenagers in the surrounding counties their driver license – or not, and was part of the Washburn Men’s Club.

Don enjoyed the outdoors, fishing and hunting. He loved to watch football and was a proud Viking fan!  Many years ago Don tried out for a minor league baseball team where he was the catcher, he warmed up with the pitcher known as Bud Grant.  Don will be greatly missed by his family and especially his great grandson Jace, who held such a special loving place in his heart.

Don is survived by his wife Betty; children: Vicki and husband Carl Dickerson, Steve and wife Diane Schillinger, Teri and husband John Tomten, and Becki Schillinger; eight grandchildren: Mary Beth, Jeff (Misty), Jessica, Adam (Leslie), Jacob, Julia (Keith), Josh (Meghan) and Lindsay;  13 great-grandchildren and one great-grandchild on the way, brothers: Marshall (Nancy) and Greg (Maurice) Schillinger; many other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents George and Dorothy, great-granddaughter Whitney, son-in-law Carl Maxwell, brothers James and Fritz.

A special thank you to the Bay Area Rural Transit and Northern Lights Health Care Center for their services. A private Celebration of his life will be held at a later date.
