After 24 years of teaching in Glenwood City, Bob Mell will be retiring at the end of the school year.

Don and Carol Dejno recently purchased two acres of property for the expansion from Goldstar Cooperative. The Dejnos are planning an addition of 200,000 sq. ft. and to add 9-15 new jobs in Glenwood City.

Marguerite Blodgett of Boyceville will be heading to Pasadena, California on July 23 for a three-week conference to create  STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) programing that the Girl Scouts Councils can incorporate here and possibly overseas.

The Jolly Hills Farm was the scene of a barn fire early Monday morning that claimed 59 head of registered Holstein milk cows. The farm is located about five miles south of Boyceville on Highway 79 and is operated by Donald Scott and Jim Knopps.

The Glenwood City School Board heard a request from Melvin and Donna McOllough to request help for a property exchange with the Clear Lake School District. The McOllough’s own two parcels of land adjacent to each other on County Highway P in Emerald, but one parcel is in Clear Lake School District and the other is in Glenwood’s. With their growing family they need to move from the house in Glenwood’s jurisdiction to the larger house in Clear Lake’s, but want their children to remain in the Glenwood City schools.

Michael Blaser, was driving a car on Highway 12 when it struck a feed truck driven by  Timothy L. Flug of Wheeler. Blaser and his mother Mary were taken to Baldwin Hospital and Michael was transferred by air to Regions in St. Paul. Mrs. Blaser was treated and released from Baldwin, and Flug received minor injuries but did not require hospitalization.

Mrs. Roy K. Johnson was the winner in the June Dairy Month Recipe Contest bake off held at the St. Croix County Fair on Friday evening, August 12.

Work is beginning on the Colonial Hill Country Club. The club, a fabulous view golf course set in a rolling choice location promises to be the heart of this area’s recreational activities, is just a few yards north of Interstate highway 94 on State highway 128.

The state motor vehicle department registered 1,945,848 vehicles in Wisconsin during the fiscal year ending June 30, 1966. This is a record-breaking total.

The Hersey Harvest Festival once known as the greatest crowd getting small town celebration in the northern half of Wisconsin will be revived this year after a lapse of thirteen years. Date have been set for Friday, August 3 through Sunday, August 5.

The St. Croix Valley Co-op Dairy, Glenwood City, is the holder of Wisconsin Grade A Permit No. 20. The issuance of this permit indicated the dairy and its producing farms are in full compliance with the state Grade A rules and regulations.

A three inch rainfall last Wednesday afternoon sent flood waters racing down small creeks and dry runs to flood much land and wash out several culverts and roads in the area.

June 16, 1921

Negotiations were completed Saturday for the purchase of the right-of-way for Federal Highway No. 64 in the town of Forest, and the county highway commission is in Eau Claire today to let the contract for its construction.

Dr. W. H. Park, a well-known Glenwood City resident, was elected Grand Herald of the Grand Lodge of the I. O. O. F. in session at Milwaukee last week.

Glenwood City’s big Chautauqua will be held Thursday, Friday and Saturday, June 23, 24, and 25. It promises to be even better than last year’s.

Ed Evenson is no longer liaison between Boyceville and AMPI as a result to action taken at special meeting of the village board July 16. Board member Joe Pieters proposed abolishing “all liaison positions”, including Evenson’s (the only post at the time) due to the village attorney’s during and other reasons.

Fifty-nine Dunn County town and village board members and presidents sent a petition to the county board calling for a referendum vote on the proposed new county shops building and expansion of the courthouse.

Boyceville student lunch fees will rise to $24 per quarter in the fall as a result of school board decision at its July 20 meeting. The program would be $25,000 short next year if the fee wasn’t increased.
