Ilene Draxler of Loveland, Colorado passed away on May 31, 2016, at Balfour Retirement Community in Louisville, Colorado.

Ilene was born on October 11, 1925 in Glenwood City, Wisconsin. She was the daughter of Maurice and Nellie Olson. She graduated from Glenwood City High School in 1943. Following graduation, she attended a business school in Superior, Wisconsin. Her first secretarial job was at Montgomery Wards in St. Paul, Minnesota. After that, she worked as a secretary for the City of St. Paul until the fall of 1944. On November 11, 1944, she married Lieutenant Don Draxler, who was still in the Army, recovering at Mayo General Hospital in Galesburg, Illinois.

In the spring of 1946, Ilene and Don bought their first home in St. Paul, Minnesota, where Don was attending the University of Minnesota, and Ilene was caring for their first newborn daughter, Diane. In 1949, Ilene and Don opened the DRAXLER FARM STORE in Glenwood City, Wisconsin. It was a grist mill, and they sold feed, seed, and fertilizer. In 1953, they sold their home and the store, and moved to Fresno, California because of family educational needs. Ilene was the mother of three and homemaker during that time. In 1957, Ilene and Don moved the family to Colorado where Don had been promoted to a managerial position with Bankers Life where he traveled a lot and left Ilene to manage their small acreage and family. She was now the mother of five children.

In 1977, by which time the nest was empty, Don and Ilene entered into the real estate business. They bought a Century 21 franchise known as D&B Realty where Don worked; and they also started DRAXLER ENTERPRISES, a property management company managed by Ilene, which included 26 office and residential rentals. They also developed residential building lots in southwest Loveland. They called it all quits when they both reached their mid-seventies. Then they bought a motor home and a pontoon boat, and headed for Wyoming and Nebraska nearly every week during fishing season. In addition to all of Ilene’s above activities, she enjoyed knitting, quilting and reading; as well as gardening and entertaining friends and family.

Ilene was preceded in death by her husband of nearly 70 years. She is survived by her five children: Diane Nanovich of Green Valley, Arizona; Patty (Bill) Krohn of Thornton; Dave (Cassandra) of Shingle Springs, California; Jim of San Francisco, California, and Doni (Mike) Ellis of Broomfield.

She is also survived by nine grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren.

Cremation has been completed. A memorial service will be held in Balfour Lodge at Balfour Retirement Community (1331 Hecla Drive, Louisville, Colorado) on Saturday, July 16, 2016 at 5:30pm. Go to for on-line condolences.
