Lee Bjurquist, superintendent of schools in Colfax, attended his last Colfax Board of Education meeting June 19 before his official retirement June 30. Dennis Geissler, principal at all grade levels for the past 12 years, becomes superintendent July 1.

Three suspects have been apprehended in connection with the June 6 robbery at the Ridgeland-Chetek Cenex Convenience Store in Sand Creek. Two of the three are juveniles.

A committee working to form an emergency medical services district for Colfax and Elk Mound has agreed to hire the law firm of Weld, Riley, Prenn and Ricci of Eau Claire as corporation counsel.

Fritz Koepl Inc. submitted the low bid of $207,644 to improve and expand the Colfax High School athletic complex. The work will begin in September.

Good progress is being made on constructing the car wash on Highway 40 across from First American Bank Wisconsin. Owners are Bryan and Jane Dobbs of Colfax.

“Stories of the African Grass,” a participation play for children ages 5 to 11, will be presented June 28 at the Colfax Free Fair.

The second annual Dunn County Dairy Open Show was held June 28 at the Colfax Free Fair. The open show was larger than last year, and the fair’s youth show was the largest in the fair’s 62 year history.

The People’s State Bank grand opening at the new location on the south side of Colfax will be Friday, July 3. Drawings for door prizes will include a portable television, radio, two sets of lawn chairs, Structo grill, Vivitar camera, and a three-speed bike for kids. Also free coffee, cookies, milk, cheese and crackers, pop and ice cream. Free yard sticks too.

The first consignment auction by the Colfax High School FFA was held at the Colfax Free Fair June 28. Larger than anticipated, the auction was held to raise money for FFA projects.

Colfax firemen made four runs in less than a week: a grass fire south of Wheeler; a barn fire at the Donald Sikora farm near Albertville; a barn fire at the Skip Hill farm north of Colfax caused by lightning; a milk house fire at the Milton Breezee farm in Otter Creek.

At the Colfax Farmers Union annual meeting June 14 it was reported that annual sales totaled $626,418 for 1965, an increase of $45,615 over 1964.

After an enforced vacation of six weeks, Dr. Felland reported for work at his office Monday morning.

The 47th Annual Colfax Free Fair is scheduled for July 6 through July 9. Ride tickets, 8 for $1, may now be purchased at area businesses.

The sewage treatment plant and collecting sewers must be completed by December 1952. The Conservation Department of Wisconsin has set this deadline due to the pollution of the Red Cedar River with raw and untreated sewage.

Mendus Western, owner of the Colfax Gamble Store, is getting in on the ground floor of television. He attended a Gamble Store television school in Minneapolis.

The Game of the Year: The mere mention that the Eau Claire Campens team will play here next Sunday against Colfax ought to be sufficient to pack the entire park with spectators.

Luther Hospital in Eau Claire has launched a ten-day campaign to raise $80,000 for adding a new wing to its present building. In eight years, Luther Hospital has given treatment to 8,000 patients.

The present library room has been rented, and the library books will be stored until the municipal building is completed. Those wishing the privilege of taking out several books may apply to the librarian on Saturday afternoon and evening of this week only.
