EVELYN M. CHRISTENSON

Evelyn M. Christenson, age 99, of Dallas, WI died Friday, June 3rd, 2016 at Dallas Care & Rehabilitation.

She was born June 29th, 1916 to Lawrence & Elizabeth (Kavanaugh) Riedl in the Town of New Haven, Dunn County, WI. She grew up on a farm near Downing with 2 brothers: Joseph & Albert & 2 sisters: Josephine & Georgina. She attended Hilson rural school & graduated from Downing High School in 1933 with only 12 students in her class. Following high school, she found various work helping many people out, including her family.

On June 5th, 1945, she was married to John Adolph Christenson at Glenwood City, WI. Together they farmed for a total of 29 years. They started on Adolph’s family farm & later purchased their own dairy farm in 1947, located near Ridgeland on Hwy. A. In 1974, they retired from farming and bought a home in Dallas where Evelyn has continued to live independently since her husband’s death in 2006. Evelyn worked for a number of years as a retail clerk at Lewie’s Cash Store in Ridgeland & later at James Pharmacy in Barron.

After retiring in 1981, Evelyn & Adolph enjoyed traveling to the western part of the United States. Her interests over the years were sewing, baking & gardening, along with doing a lot of reading & many crossword puzzles. Evelyn so much enjoyed having company stop by to see her. She especially treasured her conversations on the phone with family, friends & neighbors. She will be dearly missed by all, including her church family at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Barron where she was a member for so many years.

Evelynn was preceded in death by her parents, husband: Adolph on December 23rd, 2006, sisters: Josephine Klingelhoets & Georgina Klinger, brothers: Joseph & Albert Riedl & nephews: Peter & John Klinger. She is survived by her nieces: Patricia Delong of Emerald & Betty (Hector) Campbell of St. Paul, MN, nephew: Robert (Dorothy) Klinger of Woodbury, MN, brother-in-law: Melvin Erickson of Barron, close friend & neighbor: Don Styer of Dallas, as well as many nieces & nephews on Adolph’s side, other relatives & friends.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be (was) held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, June 8th at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Barron with Father James Bartelme officiating & interment in St. John’s Catholic Cemetery in Glenwood City. Visitation will be (was) held for the hour prior to services at the church on Wednesday. Arrangements are with Rausch-Lundeen Funeral Homes, Dallas & Cameron.
