DONALD DEAN OLSON

Donald Dean Olson, age 78, passed away on April 7, 2016 at Baldwin Care Center, Baldwin, WI.

Donald was born on August 24, 1937 to Clarence J. and Helma A. (Peterson) Olson. He was baptized and confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church in Woodville.

Donald was married to Darlene Doris Busch on April 30, 1960 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Glenwood City, WI. To this union two children were born; Douglas Dean and Darla Dawn. They were considered the 4-D family as they all had the same initials.

Don graduated from Woodville High School in 1955 and entered the United States Air Force. After four years in the Air Force, he received an honorable discharge in October 1959. Don then began working at the Baldwin Bulletin office where he worked for 40 years until retirement.

Don enjoyed bowling, snowmobiling, hunting, and fishing. He was always telling stories about his fishing trips which were in Canada for several years. Don also enjoyed having coffee and playing hooligan with friends in Woodville.

Don and Darlene took several trips to visit their son who was in the service. They visited Doug and his family while he was in several different states. They also traveled to Branson, MO and Nashville, TN. On their 46th wedding anniversary they traveled to Alaska.

Don was a great NASCAR fan and also liked softball. He played ball with the Uptown Bar team and later with Gregerson Hardware. He also coached and managed the Zion Lutheran church softball team and had a few years of winning records.

Don is survived by his wife of 55 years: Darlene; son: Douglas Dean (Ramona) Olson of Ozark, AR; daughter: Darla Dawn Olson of Blair, WI; two granddaughters: Christine Renee Olson of Salem, OR and Amanda Margaret Olson of Pasco, WA; his sisters: Irene (Gordon) Anderson of Spring Valley, WI and Mildred Anderson of Baldwin, WI; and several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents: Clarence & Helma Olson; sister Evelyn Grinnell; brother Stanley Olson; sisters-in-law: Eva Olson and Sharon Busch; nephew: Gary Anderson; in-laws: Edward and Frieda Busch; brothers-in-law: Rex Grinnell, Galen Anderson, Arthur Busch, and Russel Busch.

Visitation was on Sunday, April 10, 2016 from 4:30-7 p.m. at Zion Lutheran Church, Woodville and also Monday for one hour prior to the service at church. Funeral service was Monday, April 11 at 11 a.m. at Zion Lutheran Church in Woodville. Burial was in Sunset Memorial Cemetery, Woodville, Wisconsin.

Honorary pallbearers were his Godchildren Janice Haller, Brenda Lee, Susan Bol, Julie Douglass, Roxanne Grinnell, Michael Nelson, and Bruce Fouks

Pallbearers were Sidney Anderson, Greg Olson, Joseph Schug, Jim Turnbull, Lee Douglass, and Fred Nitchey.

In lieu of flowers, memorial are preferred.
