Travis Hakes announces run for State Assembly

CHIPPEWA FALLS – Lake Hallie Police Officer and Elk Mound Chief of Police, Travis C. Hakes, today announced his candidacy for Representative of Wisconsin’s 67th Assembly District. Hakes aims to fill the seat left vacant by Representative Tom Larson who is retiring in January 2017 at the end of his third term.

“I am humbled by the support and encouragement I’ve received from family, friends, business and community leaders as I’ve considered taking on the great responsibility of serving the hard-working people of the Chippewa Valley and northwest Wisconsin,” Hakes said. “I appreciate the service Representative Larson has given to the residents of the 67th District and to our State. I congratulate Tom, his wife, Mary, and the Larson family as they enjoy retirement together.”

Hakes, a lifelong resident of the 67th Assembly District, was born in Tilden and now lives in Elk Mound with his wife, Hillary (Spaeth) and their new born son, Porter. Hakes currently works as a full-time officer with the Lake Hallie Police Department. He also serves as the part-time Chief of Police in Elk Mound. A certified conceal-carry weapons instructor, Hakes owns and operates a small business in the district providing small arms training.

“Being a new father, I am deeply aware that the decisions we make, and the policies our state government adopts impacts our children and influences their choices as they grow up, like where they will live a raise their families,” Hakes said. “For generations my ancestors have called the 67th District home, the Kressin’s farmed in Chippewa Falls, the Lotts’ owned small businesses in New Auburn, the Hetchler’s helped build the stacker in Cornell, and the Hakes’ farmed in the Chippewa area.” Hakes went onto say, “I have recently helped author two bills, and look forward to an opportunity to work with legislatures to strengthen small business, strengthen family farms, ensure better care for our veterans, support law enforcement, and most importantly defend our constitution in the Capitol.”
