The Hilltopper boys’ basketball team lost 62-60 to Westby at Thursday’s Division 3 state semifinals at the Kohl Center.

Alice Bayerl was hired as a substitute psychologist on a part time basis for the rest of the year at Glenwood City Schools.

At Monday night’s meeting, the Boyceville School Board approved the motion of new playground equipment at TCE.

The Glenwood City Girls’ Basketball Team celebrated their victory over St. Croix Falls Monday night and the winning of the regional trophy. They will play Friday at Cumberland against Cameron in sectional play.

Tony Smith, 16, son of Gordie and Sharon Smith of Boyceville, and also a sophomore at Boyceville High School, soloed in a Cessna 152 plane.

William Klinger, a Glenwood City businessman, died last Wednesday morning, February 20th, at Myrtle Werth Medical Center in Menomonie. Klinger operated Bill’s Repair Shop on West Oak Street in Glenwood City for the past 25 years.

Seventy-eight kindergarten pupils were registered for the 1966-67 school year, at the kindergarten registration day held at the elementary school here on April 20.

On May 2, 1966, at St. Norbert Abbey, De Pere, Wisconsin, Father Mulhall and four of his classmates will celebrate their silver jubilee of ordination to the Catholic Priesthood. Father Emmanuel F. Mulhall O. Praem was born in Cylon and received his primary education in the public schools of Cylon, Glenwood City, and Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic School at Dobie, Wis.

The art students of Glenwood City high school are working on  creative projects of the Glenwood City High School “All School Show”.

Voters in the Village of Downing went to the polls Tuesday and with a decisive majority decided not to hire a full time police officer, on a vote of 50-18.

268 voters in the City of Glenwood turned out Tuesday to put six new men into city offices. Louis Draxler was elected the new mayor, William Forrest the new city treasurer. The new aldermen will be Milton Pierce, Phil Rassbach, and Selvin Lee. A. L. Arnquist was named supervisor after the voting was entirely a write-in campaign for there was no name on the ballot.

At the annual meeting Tuesday afternoon in the Township of Forest, the electors decided to transfer $2,000 from the general to the road funds, and also voted a 6 mill levy for road purposes.

Father Peter G. Rivers, 67, died of a heart attack following a long illness on Wednesday, March 21. Father Rivers is well known to most everyone in the entire area, and served as pastor of the St. John’s Catholic Church here from 1917 until 1934. The present building of the St. John’s Catholic Church was completed and dedicated under the direction of Father Rivers.

At an enthusiastic meeting held at the home of Mr. and Mrs. A. J. VanderHiden Tuesday evening, the Glenwood City Advancement association was re-organized under the name of the “Glenwood City Commercial Club.” A. J. VanderHiden was elected president of the club. Thirty-four members signed up right on the spot and paid their dues, which were fixed at $1.00 per year. It was decided  to hold meetings in the school house every other month.

The Apple River Milling Co. installed the plant of the Glenwood City Dairy Union last week a ten-horse electric motor to furnish power in place of the kerosene engine previously in use. Buttermaker Dickey estimates that the new power will be much more economical as well as convenient.

The farm house of Paul Spaeth in the town of Glenwood was totally destroyed by fire early last Wednesday morning. Paul estimates his loss at from $3,500 to $4,000, only a minor part of which is covered by insurance.

Within weeks of resolving a long-standing conflict with Wis. Dept. of Natural Recourses, Boyceville has received notification that another state agency disagrees with the agreement reached between the village and American Milking Producers, Inc. concerning water rates for the company’s Boyceville plant.

Boyceville village president Ed Evenson, before the regular April 6 board meeting, was directing attention to a paper addressed to “interested village residents” from “concerned Boyceville citizens”, on election day eve. It concerned some changes needed in village government methods and more detailed reports on all public knowledge projects and issues. It was claimed to be slanderous.

At the request of Third District Congressman Steven Gunderson, the Community Services Administration will investigate charges that the West Central Wisconsin Community Action Agency (West CAP) has violated federal law by engaging in efforts to influence legislation dealing with welfare reform.
